This is a reminder that Monday, January 20, 2025, is a non-student day in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We encourage you to take this time to reflect on Dr. King's legacy of equality, justice, and service.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” His words inspire us to embrace kindness, stand up for what is right, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
As we honor his life and contributions, let us remember that each of us has the power to create a ripple effect of change through small, meaningful actions. Whether it’s lending a helping hand, practicing compassion, or striving for excellence, we can embody Dr. King’s values in our everyday lives.
Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering a community of learning, respect, and growth.

Pyramid of Success
Coach Wooden believed and taught that the most important responsibility each of us had to ourselves was to do everything we could to achieve our own potential. He offered his Pyramid of Success and his definition of Success as a guide, stepping stones to help young people understand what it really takes to make the effort – 100% – to fulfill their potential and do their best. Every couple of weeks, our students will focus on one or two character traits from Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Positive examples of students exemplifying the character traits will be recognized with the Pyramid of Success Awards. Classroom lessons will reinforce elements of the Pyramid of Success. Additionally, whole school assemblies will feature character traits from Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success.
For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on Hard Work and Enthusiasm:
- Hard Work – “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. Preparing for success means you must work hard. Are you preparing to succeed or preparing to fail? If you are looking for an easy way, a short cut or trick you are preparing to fail because success requires old-fashioned hard work. Remember: Only you know if you are working as hard as you can.
- Enthusiasm - “Make each day special.” You have to like what you’re doing to do what you like at the highest level. Your heart must be in it. Without enthusiasm, you can’t achieve your fullest potential. Hard work combined with Enthusiasm is a powerful engine. I have attached classroom lesson ideas to help support the theme of cooperation. We will give out the cooperation awards on January 12.

Your dedication to being at school every day is something to be proud of! Consistent attendance is incredibly important for elementary students. Every school day provides students with opportunities to learn, connect with their classmates, and build foundational skills that set them up for future success. When students attend regularly, they don’t miss out on important lessons, hands-on activities, and valuable classroom discussions. Attendance also fosters a sense of responsibility and helps students feel more connected to their school community. Thank you, Mrs. Martinez's class, for leading the way with your commitment to being here every day. Let’s keep up the great attendance, All-Stars!
