A Note From Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Thank you to everyone who supported our Hyde-Addison ES community service efforts. We collected 85 blankets for those in need.
I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected to participate in a service experience, where I will have the privilege of supporting a school abroad. This unique opportunity will require me to be out of the building for three student-facing days next week and three the following week. During this brief time, I am confident that our dedicated team and well-prepared plans will ensure continued smooth, safe, and productive school days. I kindly ask for a heightened level of support and understanding from our school community during this period. Thank you for your partnership and encouragement!
Did your student celebrate any holidays or traditions related to their culture, race, or ethnicity this month? Please share any photos or videos related to your celebrations via email: hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov. The Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force would love to include it in an upcoming newsletter.
As always, please feel free to email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov, with any school specific inquiries.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
Hyde-Addison Elementary School
NEWS & UPDATES
Final Friday Celebrations
Every homeroom will be hosting 4 Celebrations of Learning for families that will take place in lieu of schoolwide meeting during the “Final Friday” of each term (November 1, January 24, April 4, June 13).
We will all meet in the gym, like we do for a typical SWM and we will do core value shout outs. Then, classes will be dismissed to their classes immediately following the SWM and we share a few announcements with families while classes get settled.
Families will be invited to go to their child’s homeroom class (around 9:00am until 9:30am) to see students demonstrate key learnings or share what they have been working on in one or two subject areas that term.
If you have any questions regarding the Final Friday Celebration, please email your child's teacher.

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Great Envelope Race in ON!
The 11th annual Great Envelope Race, the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the FALL, has been going strong for a number of weeks and we need your help to meet our fundraising and participation goals by October 31!
Thank you to all who have contributed to date!! As of October 23, our community has raised $43,622 (or 87% of $50,000 goal) with a participation rate of 25% from current Hyde families.
All donations, big and small, are greatly appreciated in this last week of the fundraising campaign! If you'd like to help us close that gap and haven't already contributed, here’s how it works:
- Make your donation online, either one-time at www.hydegift.com or recurring at www.hydemonthlygift.com.
- Pick up a blue envelope in the main office and return it to your teacher or the main office with whatever amount you choose enclosed.
- Ask family members like grandparents and neighbors to participate too! All donations are appreciated.
Thank you for helping us bridge the gap between the school's operating budget and the funds provided by DCPS! At the end of the day, support of the Great Envelope Race helps give the school the support it needs to provide Hyde-Addison students with the great education we all value so much!
Parent and Teacher Night out!- November 7th 5:00pm-7:00pm

Parent-Hosted Fall Parties
We’re excited to announce our first set of parent-hosted parties for the Fall! Please check Konstella for more information, including how to purchase tickets. 100% of ticket sales come back to the PTA and Hyde-Addison.
If you're interested in hosting an event that benefits our AWESOME school, we would love to hear from you! Parent-hosted parties are a great way to discover shared interests in hobbies, expose students to new skills & experiences, and connect with others in the school community. No idea is too big or small and we are here to support! Parties can be geared toward kids, families or adults only. Please reach out to tami.twyman@gmail.com for more information.
Download Konstella!
If you're new to Hyde or haven't already, download Konstella, a virtual platform for Hyde-Addison families. It’s our way of creating a virtual directory so you can connect with other families, including those in your child(ren)’s class(es) once school starts, ask for recommendations, volunteer for one time activities or on an ongoing basis, and keep up to date on events and activities happening at school! We also have social groups for each grade level in addition to each DC ward. Click here for more info including how to join Konstella.
Connect to Your Classrooms in Konstella!
If you haven’t already, we hope you’ll take a minute to update your Konstella settings and add your child(ren) to their classroom(s) in Konstella. Click the Gear icon to access your account settings, then go to “Your Children” to update. If you have any problems, please reach out to the PTA via Konstella or email pta.hydeaddison@gmail.com. More Konstella tips are in the attached flyer.
