Teacher Appreciation Week May 6th – 10th
Next week we’ll be celebrating our OMS Staff. The PTO is providing breakfast, lunch and a treat throughout the week. Now would be a great time to write an email, or send a card, to the staff letting them you know you appreciate their hard work throughout the year!
Oxford students will take their spring math assessments next Tuesday, May 7th. You can help your student do their best by:
- Being on time to school on these dates (7:51 a.m.)
- Avoiding appointments if possible
- Making sure your student(s) eat breakfast that morning
- Reminding your student(s) to charge their Chromebook the night before assessments
- Reminding your child how important it is to do their best
Thank you for all you do to support OMS!
Check Under the Couch – ALL Library Books Due Friday May 17
OMS students, all library books and materials are due Friday May 17 by 3:00pm. Students who do not return their items will be charged for the replacement cost of the books. Students who have outstanding library fees or missing books will not receive their yearbook. OMS will be closed over the summer so books must be returned by May 17th.

Helpful Repeated Information
6th Grade Families – Before Your Student Starts 7th Grade
Current OMS 6th grade families received an email with information from Nurse Bowersox regarding required immunizations. Many students have already received the vaccinations but paperwork must still be turned in. See the email sent on April 18, 2024 title “OMS 6th grade: Immunizations required before 7th grade” for details.
OMS Parking Lot: Student Drop Off/Pick Up SAFETY ISSUE
OMS Parents and Guardians,
Recently we are noticing an increase of parents and guardians dropping students off or picking them up in the south lot. This is creating unsafe conditions for our students and our staff.
Please follow the OMS carline loop entering at the south end on Switzer, loop around toward the front of the building, and exiting at the south loop. There is a NO LEFT TURN blinking light. This is an enforceable traffic violation that can result in a traffic ticket. Please contact OMS School Resource Officer, Officer Doherty, with any questions.
Anyone turning left when that sign light is blinking is slowing our traffic flow and clogging up the traffic line. Any cars that enter the south lot to pick up students are also disrupting our traffic pattern and there have been several near accidents as cars are unsure where those entering the south lot are headed. ALL FAMILIES MUST FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC FLOW FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY. Thank you for your help in this important safety matter.
Students Outside Before 7:15 a.m.
Starting the week of April 29th, students will be waiting outside until the doors open at 7:15am. Students who arrive for before school rehearsals should ring the doorbell for entry.
8th Grade Track Meet May 8
The all district track & Field meet for 8th graders will be held Wednesday May 8 at Blue Valley Northwest High School. The start time is 2:00pm.
Cell Phone and Earbud Policies
Parents/Guardians, please review the OMS Cell Phone and Earbud policies with your students. All devices need to be powered off when the first bell rings at 7:51am and may be turned back on at 3:00pm. Students who misuse phones or earbuds will have them confiscated for the day and taken to the office. The consequences of misusing any device are listed in the Cell Phone Policy information on the OMS website.

2024 - 2025 Registration: Every Student Every Year
Middle school registration for the 2024-25 school year is open and online now for current students and families. Registration is required annually and is the time to update your child’s information (phone, email, emergency contacts, health information, etc.). At this time, you have access to pay all required fees except for course fees. Course fees will be assigned in September.
Completing registration now confirms that your child will attend school in August and helps the district appropriately staff classrooms. Thank you for providing important information as part of the registration process. For more registration information, visit www.bluevalleyk12.org/registration.

The OMS PTO Needs Your Help!
Updated 4/12/24 -- Positions Filled & New Position Added
We have several OMS PTO volunteers who are aging out at the end of this school year, and we are hoping you would be willing to help out next year. Some opportunities are very easy and not too time consuming, and others are board positions that would require attending a monthly meeting that takes place in the evening. We are all busy, so we respect everyone's schedules, we try not to ask too much of anyone, and of course we have fun getting to know the OMS administration and supporting our kids and teachers! Here is a brief overview of the areas we need help. Please text Janie Snider at 816-716-4025 or email at jmlogansnider@gmail.com for more information.
1.School Supplies/Spirit Wear Coordinator - work with the school supply vendor and the administration to put together accurate list for supplies, then promote school supply orders at the end of each school year. The same vendor provides spirit wear, so this volunteer would also provide information at the beginning of the school year for online spirit wear orders.
2. PTO Fundraising Vice President - oversee the committees that coordinate concessions, trivia night, and restaurant nights. Attend monthly board meetings. Time commitment averages about 3 hours per month during the school year. Some months will be less of a commitment, and the months when fundraising events happen will be a little more of a time commitment. This would be a great position for two people to partner together to ease the work load.
3. Concession Coordinator - work with volunteers to stock and sell concessions at OMS games throughout the school year. The time commitment to coordinate volunteers would be about one hour per month. More time would be spent if you also choose to work at the concession stand during some of the games. This would be a great position for two people to partner together to ease the work load.
4. Student Social Coordinator - work with volunteers to coordinate after school student social events once each semester. This position will require about one hour of planning for the two social events, and attending the one-hour events twice a year.
We would love to work with you on anything that might fit your schedule!
