GRE Staff Newsletter
For the Week of February 4, 2019
Dear Team,
Well that was an interesting week for sure! I hope you took the time to recharge and hang out with loved ones. When I talked to many of you, you shared a sense of urgency to get back at it. I appreciate that. With three unexpected days off, adjustments will need to be made and I would encourage you to keep that sense of urgency but not rush through the deep learning you had planned.
On Thursday, a select group of 4th Grade students will take the NAEP Assessment in Trisha Hilton's room beginning at 8:50 and then again at 1:00 (we will also be using Stefanie Plowman's classroom at 1:00). As you move through out this area of the building, please keep voices down and help to create the best testing environment possible. We have 51 students that were selected for this test, which requires the whole fourth grade schedule to be thrown off. If you work with a fourth grade student, you can see their homeroom teacher or myself to see if they were selected for this group.
We will have Eagles Nests this Friday morning, look for details to come out from Ginna soon. In addition, we will have a modified Party Wagon this Friday. We will attempt to do each grade levels party wagon at the end of their lunch to avoid interrupting classes.
Here's to a great week!
Kate
Welcome to the GRE family Avery Loretta Roan!
News to Share
1. Tuesday's staff meeting will focus on PBIS and help us set the stage for next school year. We will be working in vertical teams to help define what our common building expectations will be. I will provide a light breakfast, including coffee. Please come prepared to listen and focus on the building as a whole. We have been working on the behavior matrix behind the scenes to start our discussions, click here if you want to add some ideas.
2. Be sure all conference letters go home in backpacks on Monday. If there are any conferences you need me to attend, please schedule those so I can make sure you get the support you need.
3. Another layer of support will be provided by Trevor, our Y club site Director. Beginning the first week of February, Trevor will work from 9:00-10:00 am on Fact Fluency with our struggling students. We will provide this intervention M-F for third and fourth graders right outside the classroom. During this intervention, Trevor will do a flashcard review and help students graph their progress. His intervention will last about 5-7 minutes per student. If you feel you have a student who would benefit from this intervention, please click here to submit their name and information. If you have questions, please see me.
