Wildcat Family Newsletter
December 6th, 2024
From Our Principal
Hello Families!
We hope you have been enjoying the sunny weather this week! It has definitely made recess fun!
As we head into the two weeks before winter break, we wanted to remind you about the importance of coming to school on time at 8:00 am. Students eat breakfast from 8:00 - 8:10, and academic instruction in reading or math begins at 8:10 for all classes. When students arrive late they are missing important learning! If students receive extra reading support or IEP services first thing in the morning, they might also miss that if they are not here on time. Please reach out to us if there is any way we can support you with on time arrival.
We hope to see you all at Family Movie Night on Thursday, December 12 from 6:00 - 7:30!
Sincerely,
Ms. Thompson
We are always accepting donations to support our school! Funds may be used for a wide range of student support purchases, especially snacks and classroom supplies. Use the button below to donate. You can log in using your ParentVue infomation or you can donate as a guest.
Wildcat Community Event
Playing Soon: The Wild Robot
Whitman PTA is hosting a family movie night on Thursday, December 12. The movie will start at 6:00 PM so arrive a little early to pick your seat. Pajamas, blankets, and cozy vibes are welcome! Pizza and popcorn will be available to all.
Winter Reminders
Rainy Weather
The rainy season has begun, and we do still go outside to play almost every day (except in cases of very heavy rain.) We sometimes have students come ask us for a change of pants or socks because they have gotten too wet at recess, usually from splashing in puddles. Unfortunately we cannot provide a change of clothes for this reason. However, we do have rain ponchos that students can choose to wear if they have forgotten their coat! Please talk to your child about wearing their coat or asking for a poncho, or not splashing in puddles if they don't want to get too wet. You can also send an extra pair of socks or pants in their backpack!
Traffic Safety
We have had a few family concerns about traffic safety at arrival time in the morning. We have put up new signs in our parking lot reminding drivers to stop before exiting--please drive with caution as we have many families walking and riding to school!
We encourage you to formally report traffic safety incidents that happen off campus to PBOT (for example, drivers not stopping at crosswalks). You may do so through PBOT’s Non-Urgent Traffic Safety Report Form or dialing 503-823-SAFE (7233). You can also make requests or report concerns through PDX 311, by emailing 311@portlandoregon.gov or calling 3-1-1. The PBOT representatives let us know that they receive thousands of reports every year and cannot respond to each one, but even if they don't act on the request, the reports give them a fuller picture of traffic safety throughout the city and helps us prioritize work in the future.
SUN Fall Term
SUN classes for Fall Term will finish on December 12. Winter term will start January 13th and sign-up information will be distributed before winter break.
