A Wonderful Time of Year at Reynolds
Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season! This time of year is a reminder of how fortunate we are to have such a supportive partnership between home and school. We couldn't do it without you!
World Kindness Day
At our November Rocket Day on 11/13, students in all grade levels celebrated World Kindness Day. Our Rockets honored their teachers at this special assembly by serenading them with "Thank You" and presented them with a thoughtful gift that they prepared just for them. Three Bogert students shared how Reynolds helped them learn to be accountable to grow into responsible and respectful citizens. Our Rockets learned first hand that being accountable means that they can be counted on to be their best. Finally, we celebrated how grateful we are for everyone who comes together to make Reynolds such a special place.
Celebrating our Families in Kindergarten
In the month of December, Kindergarteners will continue their Social Studies unit, which focuses on their families. In this unit students have been learning that every family is special and functions around love, traditions, and supporting one another.
Each class created a class “family tree” with pictures from each family on it. The children were able to share about their family and then add their picture to the tree. Students also share the celebrations and traditions that they have with their families. The children have been enjoying sharing and learning about each other!
Turkey Fun in First Grade
First Graders worked with their families by disguising turkeys to save them from Thanksgiving dinner! We were so impressed by their creativity.
Second Grade Social Studies - Special visit from the Mayor for our Civic Participation and Government Unit
Exciting things are happening in Second grade! In their recent Social Studies unit on Civic Participation and Government, students dove into the rights and responsibilities of citizens, the importance of rules and laws, and how to be good citizens at school, home, and in their community. They also explored the roles and responsibilities of local and state governments. The unit culminated with a memorable visit from Mayor Fardanesh, a Reynolds alumni, who answered students’ questions and shared insights about leadership and civic engagement!
Hour of Code
Reynolds students will participate in the Hour of Code during the week of December 9th, an engaging interactive introduction to the world of programming. It's a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore the basics of coding, fostering creativity and problem solving skills that will benefit them in our tech-driven world.
December Holiday Shoppe
- PTO Holiday Shop- The holiday shop will take place again this year during the week of December 9th. Thank you to the PTO for this enjoyable activity for our students. Information about class date and time will be sent home through the PTO.

Dismissal Email
When making dismissal changes for your child, please remember to use the Reynolds Dismissal group email and cc your child's teacher too. The email is: Reynoldsdismissal@usrschoolsk8.com.
Counseling Corner
In December, students will be focusing on the Star Power Word: Feelings. This is a great opportunity to learn ways to identify the different feelings that we experience each and every day and how to manage them. At home you can reinforce this important skill by using a variety of feeling words in different situations your family experiences. When faced with a big feeling, model productive ways to cope such as taking a break to get calm, deep breathing, or identifying how you feel in a calm way.
Mrs. Slacin and Mrs. Severs have been recognizing Star Students in special announcements each week. Students that go above and beyond by spreading positivity and kindness are given a shout out, special certificate, and small prize that lets them know how much they shine at Reynolds School! Keep up the great work, Rockets!
Tips from the Reynolds Learning Lab
Literacy:
Practice reading and spelling your child’s red words in a fun way. Write the words on Post-It notes and stick the notes to different spots in your child’s room. Have your child use a flashlight to shine on a word and read it. Turn the flashlight off and have your child spell the word.
Numeracy:
Numbers are all around us! When you are out and about with your child, use your surroundings to pose addition and subtraction number stories. The grocery store is a great place to do this! In addition, use mathematical vocabulary (more than, greater than; less than, fewer than) when asking questions.
Tips to Stay Healthy During the Winter Months from the Health Office
As the temperatures drop and flu season is here, there are a few tips that we could use to avoid getting a cold or even the flu:
Wash your hands before and after meals as well as after playing with shared toys.
Protect your skin- wear gloves, ear muffs, and hats, and moisturize your skin when it is dry.
Cover your mouth when you are sneezing or coughing.
Wear appropriate clothing, and layer your clothes if needed.
Eat healthy foods such as fruits or vegetables high in vitamins and minerals.
Take your daily vitamins.
Drink lots of fluids, especially water to stay hydrated.
Sleep 8-10 hours a night.
Enjoy the winter and Stay Healthy !!!!!
