THE LION'S ROAR!
August 9th, 2024
October 4, 2024
FROM OUR PRIDE LEADER
Hello Norris Lions!
I can't believe we have turned the calendar to October! This time of year always kicks off a busy season for us at school, starting with our Parent Teacher Conferences! We had an awesome turnout last night, and hope to see many more of our families at P/T Conferences on October 8th and 14th!
Remember, there is NO School for Students October 10th-14th!
Our students will be busy in the classrooms during the short week next week, wrapping up the first quarter of the school year! Looking ahead to Fall Break, don't forget about IXL as a tool to keep your students engaged in their learning!
We’re using IXL to support our curriculum this year, and your child has access to this online program at home. IXL is a learning platform that lets students practice skills that they’re learning and guides them to material that will help them grow the most. With thousands of skills that match what we’re covering in class, as well as insights into student progress, IXL is a great resource to help your child excel. Have your child show you their most recent certificates and awards in IXL, and take some time over Fall Break to explore the program- you won't be disappointed!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Dolezal, Principal
Congratulations to our SEPTEMBER Students of the Month!
Students are selected for this award by displaying positive behavior every day, in all settings at school. This is an honor that only one student per grade level receives each month! Winners receive a window sign to display in their home throughout the month. Please return these signs to school at the end of the month.
Congratulations to these outstanding students!!
Congratulations to this week's ROAR Ticket Winners!
Pajama Day Monday, October 7th
Mrs. Harris has been creating a book chain for students to track the number of read alouds in the Library! The students earned their goal this week, and can wear pajamas to school on Monday, October 7th to celebrate!

4th & 5th Grade Parents- Spring 2024 NSCAS Reports are Available in Parent Vue
Dear Parents or Guardians,
In the Millard Public Schools, our mission is to guarantee that each student exemplifies the knowledge and skills necessary for personal excellence. Each student must be College and Career Ready in reading, writing, and mathematics to graduate from the Millard Public Schools. As part of our goal to guarantee the success of each student. Millard has a comprehensive student assessment system in place. The state tests, NSCAS (Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System), are one key component to our assessment system.
NSCAS tests are developed by the state and administered to students in grades 3 - 8. These tests cover English Language Arts, mathematics, and science (grades 5 and 8).
The student NSCAS report summarizes your student’s performance in Spring 2024. Note: NSCAS fall and winter scores do not appear on this report because MPS uses MAP Growth in the fall and winter.
NSCAS and MAP student reports can be found in our Synergy apps called ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Look in the Documents tab in the ParentVUE / StudentVUE app on your mobile device. If you are not using these mobile apps you can find the Synergy link on the Millard Public Schools homepage (https://www.mpsomaha.org/) . If you need assistance logging into ParentVUE or Synergy, please call our PAL (Parent Assistance Line) at 402-715-8000.
Please contact your building administrator if you have specific questions about NSCAS.
Sincerely,
Darin C. Kelberlau, Ph.D.
Executive Director of Assessment
ROAR Skill of the Week- Showing Sensitivity to Others
Each week, all students at Norris will have a lesson practicing a social skill. These weekly lessons are called our ROAR Skills of the Week! ROAR skills are practiced in the classroom during a Morning Meeting. All staff members are on the lookout through the week for students to be practicing the weekly skill. Students who demonstrate the skill of the week may earn a ROAR ticket and be entered into a weekly grade level drawing.
Please take some time each week to review the ROAR Skill of the Week with your child!
October Breathing Exercise- Fire Hands
All students are practicing the calming exercise of Fire Hands during the month of October! Practice this at home when your child is in need of a tool to help them calm down!
ParentVUE Absence Reporting
Parents may report absences by using ParentVue, however, there are a few things to remember when using this method.
- Use web browser only - the app is inconsistent and may not report your absence to the office.
- Use for all day absence only - late arrival, early out or AM/PM only absences can not be reported on the app and should be called in to the office.
- Absence can only be marked for that day - multiple day absences should be called into the office.
- Only available before 9:30 am - please call the office to report an absence after 9:30.
- If an absence was previously reported & recorded already by the office - the ParentVue absence will not go through and will send a denied email to parent.
- Once entered, the absence can only be changed by the office.
- See the link below for step-by-step directions.
- Please contact the office at 402-715-8340 with any questions or concerns.
