Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our PE team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Year 12 sports science students delivered the first of their coaching sessions as part of Unit 2 sports leadership. Ruben, Debo, Talia and Hollie overcame their nerves and did a fantastic job with their first sessions, the year 7 students were all engaged and made great progress, some of them in activities they have not yet experienced in PE. A huge well done to the year 12's, five more sessions to go. Pictures of the session are below.
Mrs Horwood has nominated Year 10 Sports Science students Junior M who showed great resilience and hard work to complete his Nutrition task on time working hard in extra sessions and lessons to ensure he achieved the best possible grade and Milly R and Lottie M for always putting in an outstanding amount of effort in lessons and completing work to the highest possible standard.
Mr Robinson has nominated Year 8 student Ethan M who is outstanding in lessons. He is always willing to participate and puts in 100% effort. He listens well and has good decision making in invasion games like football and basketball. Athletics is predominantly an individual sport and Ethan was able to motivate himself and stay focused on events like javelin, high jump and running which meant good progress was made. Also nominated is Year 9 student TJ who is always ready and organised and puts lots of effort into all lessons regardless of the sport. TJ creates and maintains good relationships with peers in the class allowing him to take on a coaching role when required.
Mr Reid has nominated the following this week:
Year 7 student Dominik who has managed increase in his confidence and engagement in PE during athletics. Dominik was able to demonstrate amazing technique during throwing lessons, ranking in the top three in the class for all three throws. Brilliant work Dominik!
Also nominated are Year 8 students Kellan and Jack B who have excelled in their performances in athletics. The competitiveness of both drove them to succeed and improve their performances with every event. Kellan and Jack were also very helpful in regard to setup of events and packing away. Both showed a key interest in entering the school athletics team. Well done boys!
Finally, Year 9 student Patrick whose effort levels and behaviour in lessons is always exemplary. Patrick applies himself to every lesson consistently and is a pleasure to teach.
Mr Clamp has nominated Year 9 students Luke G who has consistently shown an excellent attitude to his learning and progress in PE. He has excelled across the curriculum this year, particularly in Volleyball and now Striking and Fielding and Leon who has shown outstanding leadership skills in PE this year, consistently leading by example and demonstrating the characteristics that we expect in PE such as commitment, resilience and supporting peers. Alongside this, Leon has made excellent progress in football, volleyball and athletics.
Year 11 Thomas:
Due to his on-field performances, engagement, attitude and work ethic as a referee, Year 11 student Thomas has been invited to an assessment for the FA National CORE (Centre of Refereeing Excellence). The FA CORE (Centre Of Refereeing Excellence) is an emerging and exciting refereeing structure that aims to provide an identified number of referees at a variety of levels with quality training, education and development opportunities delivered both centrally and across a number of regional locations.
FA CORE is for those referees who are demonstrating that they have the clear ‘potential’ and ‘opportunity’ to progress in refereeing regardless of which part of the country they are from, their gender or their age.
Well done Thomas, we are very proud of you!
U13's Girls Football team:
The U13 girls were lucky enough to secure a place in an U13 tournament which took place at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton. The girls put in a great performance and after the first part of the day finished 2nd in their group putting us into the Cup tournament in the afternoon. Overall, the girls finished in 8th place out of 16 teams. Scorers on the day were Halli M, Lily C and Sophie B, the other players were Eva, Olivia M, Lilitta, Katie C, Caoimhe, Cassie-Jo and Nikola.
Curriculum Focus:
Each week we will share with you what our students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for Maths with some questions to share with your child.
Year 7:
This term, year 7 will consolidate strand Probability and Statistics and recap their understanding of different type of data. They will practice representing data using different type of charts. Students will use their Maths equipment during Maths lessons and having them each lesson and it is crucial students have them each lesson. In addition, teachers will be developing analytical skills via interpreting data.
Also, they will be revisiting unit Numbers and recap their knowledge about percentages and apply it to non-calculator questions in real life situations alongside with using a calculator in more challenging questions.
Questions:
1. How do you calculate range?
2. What is 10% of 34?
3. What is the fastest way to calculate 38%?
Year 8:
Year 8 students will consolidate strand Probability and Statistics and developing their skills in finding the averages. Their knowledge will stretch by calculating mean for continuous data for grouped data. Maths lessons will be encouraging students to interpret data and apply it in solving problems. Students will expand their knowledge to analyse different types of data. Also, they will be revisiting unit Numbers and recap their knowledge about percentages and apply it in real life questions.
Questions:
1. How do you calculate mode?
2. What is a multiplier?
3. What is a multiplier of decrease?
Year 9:
Year 9 students will be mastering their knowledge in the strand Probability and Statistics. They will stretch their knowledge about representing data using different statistical diagrams. Students will also explore the connections between data and interpret them in different contexts. Also, students will have a chance to discuss the possibility of applying this further in different professions.
Questions:
1. What is a frequency polygon?
2. How do you calculate the mean from frequency table?
3. How do you find the modal class?
Year 10:
Year 10 core students will be consolidating their knowledge in the strand Probability and Statistics. They will be mastering their skills in calculating averages and interpreting it. Their knowledge will stretch by plotting different types of graphs, solving problems and apply it in exam style questions. Furthermore, Year 10 advanced will perform the transformation on the Cartesian Graph and describe it. Students will explore the connections between graphs and how to interpret them. They will explore the reasons to find the area under graphs and connect it to real life questions.
Also, all students are starting to prepare to their first mock exam by completing past papers in Maths lessons. In addition to it, students have a chance to attend Maths Preparation Sessions for mock exams on Tuesday's period 6.

Year 11:
This term, Year 11 Core and Advanced students consolidated their knowledge in all units of Maths: Number, Algebra, Geometry, Ratio and Proportion, Probability and Statistic. They finished their Revision Cycle 4. Maths teachers have planned bespoke lessons for their individual groups and practice completing exam questions. Students attended a series of interventions before and after school for mastering their skills and developing their exam techniques, to prepare them for the real exam.
