Congratulations to our August CUBS OF CHARACTER!
Looking for Two Families to serve on the District Citizens Advisory Committee
We are looking for Family representatives from Pawnee to serve on the District Citizens Advisory Committee. The most effective participants are family members active in school activities and interested in supporting public education.

Our goal is to have 100% representation throughout our district. Please select two family members to represent your school community. Use this link to submit names by Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Membership involves a one-year commitment for the 2024-25 school year. The meetings will be held at the Teacher Administrative Center in the Teaching and Learning Center, second floor. Meetings are held quarterly from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Attached is a District Citizens Advisory Committee overview with dates for your convenience. Please share this with your selected parents/guardians. Meetings for the 2024-25 school year have been scheduled on the following dates:

Did you know it takes an average of three days for students to catch up for every one day they’re absent? Omaha Public Schools is committed to working with our families to support student attendance every day, because we know every minute counts.

Back to School Paperwork
There are several items that we need you to complete before your student starts the school year. This includes:
- Locating their school iPad, getting it charged, and ready to bring on back to school night. Please have them update it!
- Signing up for or accessing your Parent Portal Account
- Completing the annual update of student information via the portal.
- Completing the Education Benefits Form. This form is in place of the free and reduced lunch application.
- Completing and signing the technology agreement via parent portal.

The School Day
Start of the School Day
The doors of Pawnee are open daily at 8:30 a.m. A free breakfast is served from 8:35 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. Students who are not eating breakfast will enter at 8:35 a.m. and walk to their classrooms. The tardy bell rings at 8:50 a.m. Please prioritize arriving on time.
END OF THE SCHOOL DAY
Students are dismissed at 4:05 p.m. Any student on campus after 4:20 p.m. will report to the office and their parents will be contacted followed by emergency contacts if parents do not answer.
Parents should adhere to the dismissal directions and map to keep all students safe at at the end of the day. Please be aware of students walking as you are leaving the building. All students should be picked up or walking home by 4:15 PM.

ATTENDANCE
We need our students at school every day, on time, from 8:50AM-4:05PM, to keep up on learning, unless your child has a fever or sickness preventing them from learning. Our goal is that each student miss 7 or less days this school year.
IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT, PARENTS SHOULD CALL THE MAIN OFFICE: 531-299-1900.
Schedule family vacations around our school scheduled breaks.

Tardy to school, those minutes count as minutes absent from school. Arrive before 8:50AM.
Students should not be picked up before 4:05PM, unless they have an appointment. Those minutes a child leaves school early also count as absent from school.
PAWNEE PTO
We would love to have families join our PTO!
We'll meet quarterly, after school (4:20-5:00PM) and will provide a TEAMS link for those who want to join from home.
PTO volunteers in many ways to support our positive Pawnee culture:
- Providing treats to students on special days of the year.
- Popcorn surprises for teachers throughout the year.
- Ordering and setting up teacher dinners at Parent Teacher Conferences.
- Helping with the Book Fair at Parent Teacher Conferences.
- Connecting with our community businesses to provide fun activities for our students (bounce houses at Field Day) and events sponsors during Family Nights (Raising Canes).
- Designing student school t-shirts and selling them on family event nights.
- Helping with sales during Wacky Wednesdays (This year we will only hold Wacky Wednesday at the end of the month, at the end of the school day to provide structure and consistency for every school day).

Each student’s iPad has the student handbook preloaded on it (it is also available on our website), which provides detailed information about the policies and regulations of Pawnee Elementary School and the Omaha Public Schools. Teachers and students will spend time in class reviewing the code of conduct and our school procedures and routines. Students will be instructed to take the handbook home. Please be sure to read and discuss the handbook. The students will be responsible for all content in the student handbook and parents will sign a handbook card stating they understand the expectations. School-Parent Compact
Pawnee Elementary School
This Title I School-Parent Compact has been jointly developed with parents and outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high academic standards. At the annual parent-teacher conferences, the compact shall be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Administrator/Teacher:
It is important that students achieve. We will:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment to enable children to meet the challenging state academic achievement standards.
- Regularly communicate with parents on their child’s progress.
- Demonstrate professional behavior and positive attitude.
Parent /Caring Adult:
I want my child to achieve; therefor I will encourage him/her by doing the following:
- Communicate and work with teachers and school staff on an ongoing basis to be involved and support my child’s learning.
- Support my child’s learning—volunteer in their classroom; participate, as appropriate, in decisions related to their education, guide positive use of extracurricular time.
- Make sure my child is at school every day and on time, unless he/she is ill.
- Provide a quiet place and time to do schoolwork and encourage my child to complete schoolwork.
Student:
I know my education is important to me. It is important that I work to the best of my ability. I agree to do the following:
- Be at school every day and on time ready to learn unless I am sick.
- Come to school each day prepared with supplies and an attitude to learn.
- Be responsible for my own behavior.
- Respect and cooperate with other students and adults.
- Return completed schoolwork on time.
