The Raptor Report
November 2024 - "Rolling Hills Sticks Together"
From the Principal
Hello Rolling Hills Families,
As the leaves change color and the temperatures begin to drop, fall is truly in the air! This season brings so much to enjoy. Whether it’s the smell of crisp fall mornings or fun family activities like pumpkin carving, hayrides, nature walks, or apple picking, this time of year always brings fond memories.
October was a busy and exciting month for our school. We were thrilled to take part in National Fire Prevention Week, and a big thank you goes out to the Mukwonago Fire Department for helping our students learn how to stay safe. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our Scholastic Book Fair during Grandparent Lunch Week. And, of course, a HUGE thank you to our PTO for organizing the wonderful faculty dinner during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your efforts are always appreciated—THANK YOU!
As we look ahead, I’d like to leave you with a thought: let’s focus on grit. What exactly is grit? It's all about having perseverance, determination, and strength of character. Many of our students are fortunate to have strong support systems, full of opportunities to learn and grow. But not every child’s journey is the same. Some face challenges that require extra resilience. That’s why we focus on teaching problem-solving skills and encouraging perseverance, helping our students build the toughness they’ll need for life.
To thrive as 21st-century learners, our students need to be challenged—academically, physically, and socially. Through a combination of engaging enrichment opportunities, a strong curriculum, and the support of families and our community, we’re committed to building resilience and empowering our students for future success.
Wishing you a wonderful November!
Warm regards,
Dr. Ron Schlicht, Principal
Revised Plan to Replace Park View Middle School on November 5 Ballot
On November 5, a referendum for a mix of new construction and renovation of the 1993 section of Park View Middle School will appear on the ballot. The new plan would create 210,000 square feet of new construction and renovate 32,400 square feet of space. In total, 87% of the facility would be new construction.
The plan would create space to serve 1,200 6th-8th grade students, classrooms and labs for science, technology, engineering, and math courses, a flexible space for student performances, and a gymnasium and fitness area for students and community use.
The tax impact of the plan is $24 for every $100,000 of property value. This is a reduced impact from the April referendum question due to borrowing $13.2 million less, a downward trend in interest rates for public bonds/loans, and prepaying referendum debt for Mukwonago High School, putting the district on pace to have it paid off seven years ahead of schedule.
Click here to learn more about the district’s proposal, including conceptual renderings of classroom space and more. Or, click here to learn about how to vote in the November election, including how to vote early or the location of your polling place. And don’t forget to turn over your ballot when you vote as the PVMS referendum question could be on the back!

Grandparent Lunch and Book Fair
We would like to thank all of the grandparents that came to have lunch with their grandchildren during Grandparent Lunch Week (October 7-11). We enjoyed meeting each and every one of them and hope they enjoyed their time with their grandchildren and visiting our Book Fair.
A HUGE THANK YOU to our amazing PTO and the many volunteers who made this week so successful. The week would not have been possible without you!
You are Appreciated!
The Rolling Hills Staff would like to thank our PTO for their generosity during the recent parent/teacher conference evenings. Our PTO provided staff with a build your own mac & cheese bar, along with salad and bread from The Fork in the Road on the first Wednesday of conferences. To top it off, a sandwich tray with sides was provided for the second night of conferences.
Everything was delicious and very much appreciated!
Here are a couple of important details regarding late arrivals:
If your child will be arriving late to school, please remember to include their lunch choice in the notes section of Infinite Campus when entering their attendance. Please let us know if they will be taking choice 1, choice 2 or bringing cold lunch. This helps us ensure they receive their preferred lunch without any delays.
Also, just a friendly reminder that any absences or late arrivals need to be entered into Infinite Campus by 9:00 AM so we can update our records in a timely manner. As always, you are also able to call the attendance line at 262-363-6318 Ext. 1 (available 24 hours).
Thank you for your cooperation and support! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the main office at (262)363-6318.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Missing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Parents, Volunteers and Visitors,
There are quite a few visitor and volunteer badges/lanyards missing from the Rolling Hills office. Please take a look at home, in your car, in your purse, etc. to see if you have any that may have accidentally made it out of our building. We understand how beautiful they are and how they compliment almost any outfit, but we ask that you please return them to
the front office at your earliest convenience.
Thank you!
Turkey Trot
We’re excited to announce that our annual Turkey Trot will take place on Tuesday, November 26th! The festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the gym, where students will gather for a fun kick-off activity. From there, we’ll enjoy a walk to Lauren Park, located about a mile away. Please ensure your child is dressed for outdoor activity to stay comfortable throughout the event.
We would love for you to join us! To participate, kindly complete our Turkey Trot RSVP/pre-registration form . Just a few notes to help the day run smoothly: please remember that non-school-aged children and pets should sit this one out. For safety, all adult participants will need to check in at the office before we leave. Don’t forget to bring your driver’s license, just in case!
Thank you for helping us make this a memorable event for everyone. We look forward to seeing you there!

School Counselor Note
Dear Families,
Our kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms have been learning about our social world at school using We Thinkers!, a series to help young learners develop the skills they need to be flexible thinkers and social problem solvers. Through the experiences of four characters in storybooks and accompanying curriculum activities, students have learned about social expectations at school. Students have learned about their own thinking and that of others, to help make better decisions in our social play and interactions at school.
Some of the key concepts in our We Thinkers! curriculum includes:
Social learning is all about thoughts and feelings. The ability to think about others, play collaboratively and establish friendships is all about thoughts; knowing our own thoughts, sharing them with others, and taking others’ thoughts into account as we act and react.
Following a group plan. Following individual plans versus the group plan makes it difficult to accomplish group goals. When we work together at school and follow the group plan everyone feels good and gets learning tasks accomplished.
Thinking with your eyes means we expressively use our eyes to show others what we are thinking about. Receptively we use our eyes to gather information about what other people are thinking, what is happening around us, and what the group plan might be.
Keeping our body in the group means maintaining a comfortable physical presence around others- not too close, yet not too far away.
Whole body listening is a skill we use often in school. We listen when our eyes, ears, mouth, hands, arms, legs, and feet are calm and quiet. When you listen with your whole body it helps you pay attention to what people are doing around you.
Please let me know if your family is interested in learning more and practicing these important concepts at home.

“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference!” - Nelson Mandela.
Our annual “Adopt-A-Family” campaign will be held, Tuesday, November 12th, Wednesday, November 13th, and Thursday, November 14th - challenging each of us as part of our Rolling Hills community to support this worthwhile cause! Please consider contributing what you are able!
Last year, we were able to raise $3,527, making it possible to sponsor 24 children from 15 families through the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County. In addition to clothing and multiple gifts for each child, we were able to provide each family with a grocery gift card. When we put our hearts together, it is amazing the impact we are able to make. Details regarding the campaign will be sent home the first week of November, so, please mark your calendars now. Rolling Hills is very thankful to have so many supportive families! Rolling Hills truly does make a difference!
November Spirit Days include:
November 1st- Wear orange and black for Halloween
November 11th- Wear Red, White, and Blue in honor of Veteran’s Day

The Raptor Way
This month we have been focusing on respectful actions. These actions include: Being kind to others, Acknowledge others, Don’t interrupt and be patient, and Use manners and always be polite. Being Kind to Others: Caring is feeling and showing concern for others. We have already learned how respecting ourselves, our friends, and our space has helped us to feel safe and show kindness daily. Caring builds on this. When we are caring, our actions show kindness and others enjoy our company! Don’t Interrupt (Wait your turn): Sometimes you may be bursting with excitement to tell someone something, and you may interrupt when someone else is talking. It is polite and respectful to wait your turn. Always look for a pause in the conversation, at which point you can then say, “Excuse me,” and politely enter into the conversation. Our monthly duo is: Buzz and Woody from Toy Story- We can stick together like the good friends that they are. Even during hard times, Buzz and Woody lean on each other and encourage one another to stay strong and be positive. They show empathy and concern for one another and problem solve together so that they can conquer any challenge that comes their way.
