Heights Highlights
April 2025
Dear Families,
With April comes the start of OST testing. EHMS starts the tests on 4/1 and they continue through 4/9. All students take ELA and Math, and Science is taken by 5th and 8th grades only. Please make sure that your Pioneer comes to school rested and on-time for each day of testing. Students will take the test in the morning, and we will operate on a modified bell schedule once the test session is complete. This month we also have our band concert, Spring Break, and a Book Fair. Our 3rd Annual International Fest will be May 1st and it's shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. If you or your Pioneer have questions, please reach out!

Our PBIS expectations are to Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Ready to Learn. Our expectations are posted throughout the building and in each classroom. Teachers and staff will promote these positive expectations throughout the school day.
Students will earn Petey Bucks daily for a chance to earn prizes. Students will also have the opportunity to get a positive phone calls weekly, quarterly rewards, and consistent celebrations of their success.
We invite you to join us in supporting this work together by discussing our PBIS program at home with your child. Students love to celebrate their hard work and dedication with the adults in their life. We appreciate your positive support of student learning at school and at home.
Cell Phones and Attire
As we begin the new year, we ask that you please review the ECS Code of Conduct with your Pioneer. It outlines the expectations for all ECS students while at Heights. It's been linked below for your convenience. As always, if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our main office.
We often get questions about attire and cell-phones. Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.
The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.
The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.
Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.
Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day unless they are used as a part of a teacher-directed lesson in class. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.
