THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK

Wasco Weekly
January 17, 2025
Dear Families,
Over the course of the next two weeks, we'll be conducting our regular Foundational Skills Assessment to check each student's literacy progress. This helps us ensure every child is developing the literacy skills they need to succeed.
Our teachers will check age-appropriate literacy skills for all students in grades K-5. For example:
* Kindergarten students will check basic sound skills, like identifying beginning and ending sounds in words
* Older students (grades 2-5) will read passages to demonstrate their reading fluency
This is part of our district’s guiding principles of literacy. We are grounded in the development of the five pillars of literacy instruction.
Reading success is built on five essential skills that we teach and measure throughout the year. You can help us by reaching out to your child's teacher for:
- Updates on your child's progress
- Reading activities you can do at home
- Specific ways to help your child succeed
We're here to support your child's reading journey! If you have any questions about this information, contact your child's teacher if you need any additional information or resources.
Thank you for being partners in your child's education.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Brennan

Parent Teacher Conferences
On Thursday, February 27th, all elementary students in D303 will have a half-day of school due to our Spring parent-teacher conferences. These conferences serve a different purpose than our Fall goal-setting conferences. Spring conferences provide teachers the opportunity to connect with families of students to discuss progress towards goals and areas for growth. The February 27 conferences have a much shorter time frame of 1:15-3:35. This means that teachers will only be able to meet with a few families that afternoon. Your child’s teacher will be sending a letter home with either a request to meet or a message stating that a conference is not necessary at this time.
Due to the 12:00 dismissal, students will not have lunch at school that day. All classrooms will take a snack break at some point in the morning.

Kane County Cougars Reading Club
Wasco will be participating in Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning a free ticket to a Cougars game, a free hot dog and drink at the game, and participating in a parade on the field before the game. They will also receive a ‘golden ticket’ which gets them and an adult into any home Cougars game for free for the 2025 season. It is an eight week program divided into four-two week segments. Your child needs to complete one hour of reading per week and record their accomplishments on the parent verification form that was sent home last week. After your child has completed the eight weeks of reading, he or she will get a voucher for games either on Saturday, May 17, at 6:30 pm or Sunday, May 18, at 1:00pm. More information will be sent home regarding the games.
STEM Night on Tuesday, April 22nd from 5:30 till 7pm at Wredling Middle School.
Wasco Parking Lot Guide 24-25
The map below displays how Wasco organizes dismissal for car riders. We will be directing students to wait on our “front lawn” for their ride. If they see their families' vehicles, they can walk along the sidewalk and enter the stopped vehicle. If you would like to leave your car to pick up your child, you are free to park in the lot.
You can save this as a handy reference for your caregivers or visiting family members who do pick up as well!
District 303 Partners With GPS Parent Series
