A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan Families,
We had a very full week at Sheridan… especially today! As featured previously, this morning our fourth graders joined Everett and Cherokee students to see their short stories turned into skits by Playmakers. We loved seeing how the actors interpreted our Sharks’ writing and brought it to life! Thanks again to the Spirit of 67 for funding this grant.
Also this morning, we had our first SPARK reader event of 2025. The APT's Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Committee facilitated the discussion which focused on empathy and self-esteem building. Parent volunteers read Spoon by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, engaged in a lively conversation about feelings, and led a fun self-esteem building activity. Thanks to volunteers, teachers, and staff for making it happen. The SEL Committee's next focus is Spread The Love which offers students the opportunity to create Valentine's to be donated to special groups within our community such as our Fire Department, seniors, and more!
Finally - also today! - APT brought our staff the most incredible soup and chili lunch. This “Souper Bowl lunch” is one of our favorite events and is so appreciated at this time of year. Thank you to all who contributed soup, drinks, snacks, and desserts – we are grateful!
Valentine's Day Parties: Please remember there should be no food at the parties or attached to the valentines. Thank you for your support!
From Wellness: We had a motivating visit this week from the American Heart Association to kick off the annual Kids Heart Challenge! This month-long program focuses on heart health and the real impact kids can have, both in raising money for the AHA and in learning life-saving skills. Sign up today to get started on Finn’s Mission - refresh your Hands-Only CPR skills and learn the warning signs of a stroke. Every student who completes Finn’s Mission will earn their very own Heart Hero Cape! See this document for program dates, details, and a link to the free AHA Schools App. Bonus incentives include tickets to Chicago Wolves, discounts on Chicago Bulls tickets, or attend the Chicago Bulls Court of Dreams experience. You could even earn a chance to go to the 2026 Super Bowl! This fundraiser is done completely online – no cash or checks will be accepted at school. Thanks for supporting our school and the American Heart Association. Every step you take helps save lives!
From the Nurse: Our “extra clothes” supplies are dwindling. We’d love your help in returning any sweatshirts, sweatpants, leggings, etc. that may have been sent home after a visit to the nurse. If you have an item that came home from school, please send it back in with your child or drop by the front office. Thank you!
From Gardening 2 Grow: Thank you to all the students and parent volunteers who participated in Sheridan's first ever Snow Yoga! A special thank you to all the parents who braved the cold to help our students get their bodies moving and minds calm: Jennifer Adams, Jenny Akemann, Vicky Bozic, Kristen Chun, Maureen Curley, Kristy Davis, Amy Fields, Mary Galea, Carly Kruse, Michelle Naffziger-Hirsch, and Katie Wilson.
The next Sheridan Garden Club activity will be on March 12. Details to follow. Click HERE for more information on the Districts newest parents group, Gardening 2 Grow.
Enjoy your weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan
