Hello Longhorns! Greetings from the WHS Counseling Department!
For those new to West High, we would like to introduce you to our weekly newsletter, the News Hub. With the volume of emails that most of us receive on a daily basis, our goal is to send you weekly updates with helpful information on College Prep, Events, Testing, Mental Health, Job Posts and other supportive, relevant updates that are current, concise, and quick to navigate. Information is organized by bold headers so you can quickly identify pertinent information.

SENIOR MEETINGS
Over the next two weeks, Mr. Lorenz will be meeting with seniors through senior English classes/electives in Counseling to discuss and overview the topics listed below. If you are not currently taking an English class this semester, you can make an individual appointment to discuss post-secondary planning with Mr. Lorenz at a time that is convenient for you. The main focus of the scheduled meetings is to give seniors the tools they need to understand options following graduation and to make progress towards completing their college applications. Topics covered will be:
- Creating your student accounts in our new user system: Schoolinks
- Schoolinks | submitting transcript and letter of recommendation requests
- Navigating college lists and the application process using Common App and Institutional Apps
- Important admission and WHS deadlines

A+ Scholarship Program
SENIORS: You are running out of time to sign-up!
The A+ Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend a participating public community college or career/technical school. In short, for most eligible graduates of the A+ Scholarship, schooling is free at two-year or technical colleges in the state of Missouri. ACADEMY DAY
Jefferson College Field House - 1000 Viking Drive, Hillsboro
Saturday, September 14th | 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Students, parents, and educators are invited to attend and learn about academy life and the application process. Meet representatives from all five U.S. service academies.

CAREER EXPLORATION
Healthcare
Open House - St. Luke's Hospital, 222 S. Woods Mill Rd, Emerson Auditorium
Wednesday, September 4th | 6:00 pm
Students interested in a healthcare career are invited to attend the St. Luke’s Hospital Healthcare Exploring Open House. This program runs the entire school year and offers a behind the scenes experience of different healthcare careers. We typically meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Please note we do not take students who are freshmen. Registration begins at 6 pm and program overview at 6:30 pm in our Emerson Auditorium which is in the St. Luke’s Institute for Health on the lower level of the North and South Medical Office Buildings. Students are welcome to invite their friends and parents. Registration in Explorers is $50.00. Please bring payment (check or exact cash, NO credit cards) to the open house to expedite enrollment. Participation in this program has helped students in the past to obtain college endorsement and increased opportunity to secure a job in this field after graduation. Since space is limited, each interested student should RSVP to SLHExplorersforHealthCare@stlukes-stl.com.

Veterinary Tech
Open House - Midwest Institute - 4260 Shoreline Drive, Earth City
Wednesday, September 25th | 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Considering pursuing a career in Veterinary Technology? You are invited to observe current students and alumni performing demonstrations on skills our students learn and perform during class such as radiology and surgical assisting. Instructors will be available to answer questions about the career field as well as the school experience. Prospective students will receive a swag bag from Veterinary companies.
