Monk Fryston Newsletter 11.10.24
The school target for next week is;
Attendance
Our school attendance last week was 98.16%. This is wonderful, because it is higher than our target for the year which is 97%. Please keep it up!
Collective Worship Value
Our collective worship value next week is trust. Please take time to talk to your child about this.
Disco 6th November
The PTA are holding a disco for children on Wednesday 6th November. Reception and KS1 will be from 5pm – 6pm and KS2 6pm – 7pm. Parents of children in Reception and KS1 are welcome to stay with their child, but if doing so please help us to enforce the rules of the disco. In the interests of safety, children should not attend out of their age bracket unless their parents are helping with the disco. Please get your child's ticket on ParentPay.
Recycling.
Don’t forget that we recycle plastic lids, pens, batteries and printer cartridges in school. As well as being good for the planet, we do receive rewards for the amount we are able to recycle. If you have any of these items that need recycling, please put them in the boxes in the entrance.
Time out for mum's.
There is a special time out event for mums on 18th October from 9.30 – 12 at the Old Girl’s School in Sherburn. This workshop is a way of bringing women in our community together to realise they are not alone and give them practical strategies that they can take away and implement. The cost is £15. Quiz Night - Adults Only.
The PTA are holding a quiz on Friday 15th November at 7.30pm. This has always proved to be a popular event and is great fun. Tickets are available on ParentPay for £7.50 to include pie and peas. The quiz will run in table teams, and entry can be from teams already formed or from individuals, who can join in with their table.
Y6 Residential next week.
Children in Year 6 are going on a residential visit on Monday. We hope that they have a wonderful time and look forward to hearing about their adventures. They return to school on Thursday. Year 5 will cover their duties while they are away, including locking the gates.
Eco Warriors Litter PIck.
The Eco Warriors are participating in a community litter pick on Sherburn industrial estate next Thursday morning.
School Closed Fri 25th Oct.
Don’t forget that Friday 25th October is a training day and the school will be closed. Children break up for half term on Thursday 24th October.
Tree having to come down.
Unfortunately, the large silver birch tree on the corner of the Reception classroom is causing problems to the building and has to be removed. We hope to take this down tomorrow, and will be planting replacement trees on the school field next month.
Playing on the school grounds before school.
We have noticed that children are playing on the school site before and after school. This is a safety issue because it is not possible to have adequate supervision in place. Please help us to remind them.
Online Suggestions Box.
We have set up an online suggestions box. Scan this QR code if you want to give feedback on our school (non-urgent enquiries only please). The QR code is also on the parent noticeboards in school. Alternatively click the link below for direct access to the form.

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:
Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)
Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.
You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.
Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
