Can you believe we’re already halfway through summer? We hope your days have been filled with sunshine, popsicles, and plenty of memory-making! As we count down to the first day of school (cue the excitement!), we’ve got some fun updates and helpful info to share in this July edition of our summer newsletter. You’ll also find a photo directory of our amazing staff included in this newsletter—perfect for helping your child start putting names with faces. Be on the lookout the week of July 21—you’ll receive an email from me with your child’s homeroom teacher assignment!

This year at A.L. Burruss, we’re ready to Level Up! Our 2025–2026 schoolwide theme is all about growth, perseverance, and reaching new heights—academically, socially, and personally. Just like in a great video game, every challenge we face is an opportunity to build skills, unlock new potential, and celebrate progress. Whether we’re mastering math facts, becoming stronger readers, learning to work as a team, or showing kindness in tough moments, every step forward matters. Together, as Burruss Beavers, we’ll press start, power up, and level up—one day, one choice, one goal at a time.

Hello A.L. Burruss families! My name is Johanne Gaddy, and I’m thrilled to join this amazing school community. Originally from Long Island, New York, my husband, two children, and I made the big move to Marietta, Georgia, where we’ve truly felt at home. I bring over 20 years of experience in education, including three years as a principal, and most recently had the joy of teaching 2nd grade at Hickory Hills Elementary. This past year allowed me to deeply engage in the culture of Marietta City Schools, participate in the district’s Science of Reading professional development, and serve on the Literacy Leadership Team. As I begin this next chapter at A.L. Burruss—an IB/PYP school known for its strong sense of community and academic excellence—I am honored to support Dr. Johnson, our students, families, and staff. I can't wait to get to know each of your children's unique stories and help them thrive!
