MR. PROCTOR'S MESSAGE
Good Afternoon SIMS Families,
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week and looking forward to the nice fall weather this weekend. As we finish up the fifth week of the 2024-25 school year, our students and staff are getting into routines that are consistent with making sure all students are ready to learn at their highest level. Thank you to everyone who continues to talk with your students about the importance of being to school on time and ready to learn.
As always, please make sure you are looking at all the information that Mrs. Nau includes in our newsletters. She does an amazing job of keeping you informed about upcoming dates and events that are happening on our campus.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Mr. Proctor
BE ON TIME TO SCHOOL
Along the lines of attendance, Please remember that students being to school on time is crucial to their success. All of our students have core classes first period. If a student is consistently late for school by ten minutes, that is equivalent to missing an entire class period over the length of a week. So being here on time and ready to learn is critical to making sure students are getting the content they need in order to be successful.
NO LEFT TURN
As our community continues to grow at a rapid rate, please remember that during drop off and pick up times there are no left turns out of our parking lot. A left turn puts our students and our crossing guards in harm's way. Signs are posted at the exit of the times where there are no left turns allowed. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that our students and staff are safe.
NO CELL PHONES DURING SCHOOL HOURS
I also want to bring to your attention an issue we are dealing with around cell phones. Our cell phone policy is as follows; students keep them in their lockers and shut off during the school day. Cell phones are a huge distraction to our students and their learning. There is an Instagram account where students are posting pictures and going live during the school day. If students are involved, we will follow our harassment policy and our investigation policy.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM
The Student Leadership Team consists of students in grades 6-8. Officers are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer as well as one representative from each grade level. Sixth graders are only eligible to run for class representative. Applications were available to students on Monday, Sept. 30 and are due by 3:30 pm on Monday, Oct. 7.
SEPTEMBER READERS OF THE MONTH
The following students have worked hard reading and have been chosen by Mrs. Andrews as Readers of the Month for the month of September.
DENTAL SCREENING
Capital Dental wants to help keep our community cavity-free and healthy. Dental hygienists from Capitol Dental affiliated providers will be available on site during the week of October 21-25 to provide free dental services to those who return consent forms. Note that these services do not replace regular dental care from a dentist. Consent forms have been sent home for SIS students and will be sent home with SMS students on Monday.
