MAP Testing Information
At our core, we believe that assessments should serve a clear purpose, whether formative—guiding instruction and learning—or summative—measuring performance. This belief informs how we evaluate the usefulness of data from various assessments.
When it comes to 8th-grade Spring MAP testing, we’ve determined that this data does not serve a critical summative purpose, as we already rely on IAR and ISA assessments for measuring student performance. Furthermore, MAP data will not be used formatively at the high school level, as 9th-grade instruction does not incorporate MAP assessments.
In light of this, and considering the additional testing demands of the ISA alongside IAR, we recognize that our 8th graders are already undergoing a significant amount of assessment. To avoid over-assessing our students, we’ve decided not to administer the Spring MAP test in 8th grade. This approach reflects our commitment to balancing meaningful assessment with the well-being and academic focus of our students.
By making thoughtful choices about assessments, we ensure that each test administered has a clear and valuable purpose—both for our students and for our educational goals.
Cold Weather Reminder
As cold weather makes its way to our area, I would like to share a reminder of our morning routine at Station Campus. School doors open at 8:25 AM daily. Please note that there is no supervision provided before this time, and with colder temperatures ahead, we want to encourage you to arrive no earlier than that time. As with all matters, we value your help to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Counselor Connection
As we approach the end of the calendar year, we want to take a moment to reflect on how far our students have come and share tips for finishing the semester strong while preparing for a joyful holiday season.
The weeks before winter break can be exciting but also challenging for students as they balance their responsibilities with the anticipation of the holidays. Here are some ways you can support your child during this time:
Encourage Goal-Setting: Help your child set small, achievable goals for the remaining weeks of the semester. Whether it’s turning in all assignments or preparing for a specific test, a focused plan can keep them on track.
Maintain Routines: Consistent bedtime, homework, and study habits are key to keeping energy levels steady and stress low.
Celebrate Successes: Acknowledge their hard work and accomplishments, big or small, to keep their spirits high.
The holidays are a wonderful opportunity to rest, recharge, and connect with loved ones. Some ideas to make the most of this time are:
Explore and discuss traditions around the world. https://www.worldholidaytraditions.com/
Practice Gratitude: Encourage your child to reflect on the things they’re thankful for this year. A gratitude journal or family discussion can help foster positivity.
Create Balance: While relaxation is essential, consider incorporating activities that stimulate creativity and curiosity, like reading a new book, trying a fun project, or volunteering together as a family.
Limit Stress: The holidays can be busy, so remind your child (and yourself!) that it’s okay to say no to extra commitments and focus on what matters most.
We are proud of our students and grateful for the strong partnership we share with families like yours. If your child or family needs additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the counseling team.
Wishing you a productive end to the year and a season filled with joy, peace, and love.

Attendance Procedures
Barrington 220 values student attendance. For a student to have a successful experience, the student must be present in class. Any absence from school is a missed learning opportunity for your child. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves.
We know that students are absent from school for a number of reasons, from health concerns to transportation challenges. Many people in our schools are prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. Depending on your student’s grade or school, this may include your principal, assistant principal, counselor, teacher, or all of the above. We are always available to assist and support your child in fulfilling our mission of empowering personal excellence in every learner. For more information please click here.
Club Spotlight: Engineering Club
The Engineering Club wrapped up another awesome meeting of hands-on fun! From building and launching model rockets to designing and racing CO2-powered dragsters, members got to dive into some seriously cool projects. And that’s just the start! Whether competing to design the strongest bridge or working on RC cars, the club was all about creativity, teamwork, and engineering excitement.
Best of all? You don’t need any prior experience to join—just bring your curiosity and a passion for building! Whether you're launching rockets, racing cars, or testing your designs, the Engineering Club is the perfect place to put your ideas to the test and see them come to life. Come join us next year!
Sign Out Procedures
If you plan to pick up your child up early from school, we ask that you please put in an Absence Request in the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come to the front door with your cell phone. Ms. Jarva or Ms. Alters will buzz you in and you will scan a QR code (located on table near front door) that is linked to a sign-out form that you complete while you wait for your child to come down from class. Please note, only individuals listed on Infinite Campus (IC) will be allowed to pick up your child. If you need assistance with the parent portal, please contact the Infinite Campus Hotline at (847)-842 3580.
Thank you!
Visitor Procedures
In our district’s continued effort to keep our students and staff safe, remember to bring your driver’s license or state ID when you come to visit/volunteer at Station. The reason for this is we run your ID through our sex offender background check system. After your ID is scanned, you will be issued a visitor lanyard and visitor sticker before being admitted into the building. Every D220 school follows these procedures. For the safety of our students, there are no exceptions.
