Celebrating You!
If you are feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, you have legitimate reasons. After all, the Collins Dictionary word of the year for 2022 is "permacrisis", a term that describes ‘an extended period of instability and insecurity’. Everyone has been through so much these past few years, and it is important to notice and name the emotional and physical toll this uncertainty has left us with.
This issue of Equity Matters is dedicated to you, and the hopes that you find time to rest and rejuvenate over the break. Hopefully, the materials included here are helpful while prioritizing the well-being of you and your loved ones.
Prioritizing Your Wellness...
Here are Some Tips on Putting You and Your Family’s Mental Wellness First
Focus on what’s in your control: This is a good time to focus on the things that are in your control, over things that are not.
Take care of yourself: The holidays can be a stressful and anxious time. Consider planning a day when you and your loved ones could play a game or watch a movie together. But don’t forget to have some scheduled time just for you, as well.
Don’t underestimate your resilience: Resilience is about bouncing back from challenges, rather than not having any challenges at all. Look back on your year. Notice what works for you and your family – and remember that this will look different for everyone.

However, they do offer momentary outlets that can help you gain control over an emotional moment. Using simple acronyms that are easy to remember, this resource offers techniques that you can use in moments where you are experiencing strong emotions."

We All Have A Role to Take Care of Ourselves and Each Other!
"No conversation about mental health and wellness is complete without also understanding equity. And when we take action to address systemic racism and oppression within the school system and beyond, we will have an impact on mental health of communities too." (SMHO)
SMHO Has Many Resouces Supporting Becoming Active Allies for Students, Families, Colleagues, and Community Members
"Recognize that equity training you’re involved with at work is part of the journey. Ideally, it ignites your curiosity and drive to learn more and act. We will not create an equitable society where everyone can reach their potential without more active allies."
