Superintendent's Update
March 8, 2024
Dear CCPS Families,
As we move forward into the spring season, I wanted to provide you with some important updates regarding our school district.
Firstly, I am pleased to announce that spring sports officially began last Friday. This marks an exciting time for our student-athletes as they engage in teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition. We are committed to ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all participants, and we encourage your support and involvement as our teams represent our school district with pride.
Additionally, I want to remind you that the third marking period interims will be sent out to our students on Monday. These progress reports serve as an important checkpoint in our students' academic journey, offering insights into their achievements and areas for growth. I encourage you to review these reports with your child and engage in meaningful conversations about their academic progress.
This week, we also celebrated Read Across America Day, a nationwide initiative to promote literacy and the joy of reading. Our schools participated in various activities to foster a love of reading among our students, and I am grateful for the dedication of our educators in nurturing this essential skill.
Finally, I am pleased to inform you that CCPS has submitted the final Board of Education approved FY25 budget to the County Executive and County Council on February 29th. This budget reflects our commitment to providing high-quality education while responsibly managing our resources. We will continue to advocate for the needs of our students and educators as we work towards achieving our collective goals.
As always, I encourage you to stay engaged with our school community and reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is invaluable to us as we strive to create a supportive and enriching environment for all students.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school district.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Read Across America -
Last Friday, for Read Across America, students enjoyed listening to leaders across our district and community describe the impact of literacy. In addition, leaders selected titles to read aloud to each class. This event launched National Reading Month, March 1-31. Important Information
CDC Update
The updated Respiratory Virus Guidance recommends people with respiratory virus symptoms that are not better explained by another cause (allergies, common cold) stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both resolution of fever AND overall symptoms are getting better. This recommendation addresses the period of greatest infectiousness and highest viral load for most people, which is typically in the first few days of illness and when symptoms, including fever, are worst. This is similar to longstanding recommendations for other respiratory illnesses, including influenza.
*Note - CCPS will be treating Covid just like Flu or any other illness. Staff and students may return to work after 24 hours fever free and with symptoms improving.
