Lowell Lantern
Week of February 11-February 15, 2019
WE ARE LOWELL
Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lowell Families,
On Thursday, February 14, we will have classroom Valentine’s Day parties at 2:30pm. If you are interested and available to help out with your child’s class party, please call the front office at 532-3900. We appreciate your help!
On Monday, February 11 our fourth graders will be viewing social health films. Representatives from LifeSmart Youth will present the films and moderate discussion with our fourth graders. All fourth graders whose parents gave permission for them to participate will do so.
Our 3rd Graders will take the IREAD-3 Assessment during the week of March 11- 15. This is a critical statewide standardized assessment. Teachers have been working with students throughout the year on critical reading skills and will continue to do so as a means to help best prepare students for this assessment. Please mark these dates on your calendar as it is most important for all students to be in attendance and on time to school this week. For further information on IREAD-3 you may visit the IDOE website at https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/iread-3
Our 3rd and 4th Graders will take the new statewide assessment called ILEARN. This is the assessment that has replaced ISTEP. The ILearn testing window opens on Monday, April 22. ILEARN measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards. ILEARN is the summative accountability assessment for Indiana students and assesses the areas of Language Arts and Math. Fourth grade will have an additional Science assessment that they will complete. For more information about ILEARN, please visit the IDOE website at https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/ilearn
Thank you so much to all of our Lowell Moms who took time on Thursday morning to have breakfast with their children! We had a packed house, and were thrilled to see so many of you! The students had a great time; their smiles said it all!
Have a great weekend, and enjoy your time with your children!
Mrs. Griffin

IREAD-3 TESTING
3rd Graders will take the IREAD-3 Assessment during the week of March 11- 15. This is a critical statewide standardized assessment. The Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3) assessment measures foundational reading standards to Grade 3 students each spring. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1367 (also known as Public Law 109 in 2010). It's Time to Show our Superpower of Kindness!
For the next several weeks, Lowell students will create "Superhero Capes" to be displayed in our hallways. Students will be encouraged to think about how we treat one another and how we must work together to make this world a better place for everyone. When a student shows an act of kindness, they get a kindness mask to hang on their grade level cape. It is great to see masks being added to our capes! We are Lowell...to the CORE ~~ students spreading kindness like it’s confetti! Keep up the great work!
During the months of January and February, students can bring in money for our Penny War to donate toward the Early Childhood Center in Warren Township, American Heart Association, and Riley Hospital. Students may bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills.
One Way all parents can help is by simply enforcing and encouraging the demonstration of kind and just acts at home! Thank you for teaching the valuable lessons of kindness and justice through your own example and support. These will be a part of your child's life forever just as your child will always be somebody special to us!
