🍎Principal's Message
Greetings Washington Families,
Welcome to this week's Washington Weekly! I would first like to give huge shout-out to Ms. Drum, our amazing 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year! Her hard work and dedication make such a difference every day—let’s all celebrate this aWESome recognition!
A quick reminder: there will be no school on Tuesday, November 5 for Election Day. This day is a Teacher Workday, so please plan accordingly. The Boys & Girls Club is open from 8:00am-5:00pm.
Lastly, if you haven’t yet donated to the PTA’s Shining Star Fundraiser, now’s your chance! The campaign has been extended for one final week, and we’re so close to meeting our goal of $24,000. Your contributions directly enhance our magnet program, helping fund student access to enrichment opportunities, events like International Night and Math and Science Night, and so much more!
Thank you for your continued support in making Washington shine brighter every day! 🌟
Let's make it a great week at 1000 Fayetteville Street!
Magically,
Catie Burnette

Meet Ms. Marathe!
Bio: In college I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Integrative Arts. After moving to North Carolina, I returned to school to study Elementary Education. My seventeen years of classroom teaching experience includes...kindergarten, first grade, second grade, fourth grade and one year as a second and third grade intervention teacher!
Being a teacher at Washington is important to me - I enjoy helping students find their gifts and talents while working with teachers with many gifts and talents of their own! While away from the classroom, I spend time with my family and make room for reading.
Alumni: Penn State
Favorite Quote: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” -Mahatma Gandhi
Favorite Children's Book: There are too many good books to choose a favorite! A memorable picture book I reread as a child is “No Bath Tonight,” by Jane Yolen.
Gifts & Talents: Being patient, supportive, and reliable
Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Drum!
🏫School Information
International Night- PTA Needs Your Family! 🌎
Calling all WES families to display and present items on tables for International Night next month!
PTA currently has 8 countries represented: Cuba, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Vietnam and India. They would love to have more countries because Washington is so diverse! If you have any pictures, toys, dolls, games, clothing, maps, facts, posters, etc. to showcase your country, they would love to see it! If your family would like to pick a country to learn and write about, and display, that’s great too. During the event, students will have a “passport” to go to different countries and learn about them.
