March 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Families,
We had a fantastic month of February, celebrating Valentine’s Day, Kindness and Friendship Week, and many other wonderful events. As we step into March, we have even more exciting activities planned! We will kick off the month with a special soccer show for students who sold one box of chocolates, a CGI Parent Night, and several student field trips.
With the arrival of spring, we welcome new beginnings, growth, and fresh learning opportunities. The longer days and warmer weather bring a renewed sense of energy as we prepare for exciting experiences ahead for our students. Parent conferences will take place from March 17-21 for select families. Teachers will be reaching out to schedule individual conference dates and times. Additionally, we are excited to announce the installation of our new fence covering near Fraser and Union Pacific, further enhancing the safety and appearance of our school.
We look forward to a month filled with meaningful learning, engagement, and positive experiences for our students and families. Let’s make March amazing together!
In Partnership,
Dr. Cortez, Principal

March Attendance Incentive
We will continue with our student incentives to reach our attendance goal of 95%. This month our attendance dropped to 90.6%. However, we know we can improve as the spring season begins and we'll bounce back up to 95% or higher. We encourage our students to attend school daily as here are some of the benefits:
-Consistent Learning: Regular attendance ensures you don’t miss out on key lessons, concepts, and activities, helping you build a strong foundation for understanding the material.
-Better Academic Performance: Students who attend school consistently tend to achieve higher grades, as they are present for instruction, discussions, and opportunities to ask questions.
-Increased Engagement: Attending school regularly allows you to participate in class discussions, projects, and hands-on learning experiences that enhance understanding and interest in the subject matter.
-Stronger Relationships with Teachers and Peers: Regular attendance helps students connect with their teachers and classmates, making it easier to build meaningful relationships, get personalized support, and collaborate effectively.
-Improved Time Management: Good attendance encourages students to develop strong organizational and time-management skills.

How Spring Got Its Name 🌸 🌱 🐣
- 🌱 The spring season gets its name from the verb "spring." It's a nod to the flowers and plants springing up, springing open, and bursting into blossom.
- 🐣 The word itself comes from the Old English word "springan," which means "to leap, burst forth, fly up; spread, grow."
- 🌸 During the 14th century, the word came to describe the spring season, the time when plants wake from their winter sleep and bloom.
- 🌅 Before that, the word "Lent" was used to describe the season: "In the past it was the main word for ‘spring.' Lent surfaced as ‘lencten,' that is, ‘lengten': the season got its name because in spring days lengthen." (full article here)
