Week of November 7
Veteran's Day
On Friday, November 11, Rattler Nation honored all current and former members of the Armed Services. Our country’s greatness is built on the foundation of the courage and sacrifice displayed by our veterans. Thank you!
Special shoutout to the San Marcos High School JROTC program! They visited every SMCISD campus and participated in all Veteran's Day activities this week.
TXST Residency Tour
In partnership with Texas State University, SMCISD hosted a Teacher Residency Learning Tour on November 10 at Crockett and De Zavala elementary campuses.
Texas State faculty, Texas State students considering residency, area school districts considering residency, and district administration observed classes while current or former Residents were teaching their lessons. Following the classroom observations, attendees participated in a panel discussion with Residents, Cooperating Teachers, Principals, and Site Coordinators.
Outdoor Learning
On Tuesday, November 8, Sixth grade students from Miller Middle School and Goodnight Middle School visited Rio Vista Park. During this outdoor field trip they had the opportunity to kayak, hike, journey into the world of archeology and participate in a water testing science lesson!
Women in STEM
On Tuesday, November 8, 5th grade Rattlers as well as San Marcos High School girls attended the 2022 Counter-life Herstories Conference at Texas State University. Thank you to the conference for highlighting the success stories of each presenter and allowing our students to experience this conference.
Counterstories give voice to marginalized people groups to counter the majoritarian perspective about their experiences (Closson, 2010), life histories are individuals’ retrospective accounts about their life stories (Watson & Watson-Franke, 1985), and herstories represent “the rewriting or respeaking of history” from a woman’s perspective (Mills, 1992). Counter-Life Herstories offer a powerful approach to reveal hidden truths about Black and Hispanic women’s computing educational trajectories and to provide a holistic view of their educational experiences in the broader socio-political context of U.S. computing education (Ashford-Hanserd, 2020a; Ashford, 2016; Cole & Knowles, 2001).
SMCISD Day hosted by Texas State
The Texas State University Football Program hand delivered game day tickets to every Rattler in SMCISD on Tuesday, November 8.
We as a district have a fantastic opportunity to partner with Texas State Athletics and attend their football season finale on November 26th at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats will be hosting Louisiana at 4 pm and have provided each of your children with complimentary tickets that they received at school! Any additional tickets that may be needed can be purchased for only $5 by using the promo code SMCISD at txst.com/tickets. Enter the promo code in the box that says ‘Enter Promo Code’.
Please see the attached flier for complete details as there is plenty of fun for all as they have the Coca-Cola Kids Fun Zone in the south endzone featuring bounce houses and a petting zoo, a TXST/SMCISD mini football give away, and a free postgame concert by The Spazmatics. All families are invited on the field after the game.
Next Level Made
This week, six San Marcos High School student-athletes signed their National Letter of Intent to compete and study at the collegiate level. Thank you to the parents, educators and coaching staff within our community who have supported these Rattlers throughout their journey in SMCISD. San Marcos CISD is so proud of each and every one of you and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
