From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
Wow! What an EXCITING week at IGA with education reimagined! On Monday, we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a holiday. Prior to Monday, our students have learned about Dr. King, the power of words, and utilized his peaceful tactics to resolve conflicts. Drawing inspiration from both his Christian faith and the peaceful teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. King led a nonviolent movement to achieve legal equality for African-Americans in the United States. While others were advocating for freedom by “any means necessary,” including violence, Martin Luther King, Jr. used the power of words and acts of nonviolent resistance, such as protests, grassroots organizing, and civil disobedience to achieve seemingly-impossible goals. He went on to lead similar campaigns against poverty and international conflict, always maintaining fidelity to his principles that men and women everywhere, regardless of color or creed, are equal members of the human family. That legacy lives on with each of us at IGA.
We also celebrated the 100th day of school this week! These past 100 days have been filled with excitement, joy, laughter, and learning with many memories made. Friday, students and staff took part in the 100th day by completing one hundred excercises, making fruit loop necklaces, writing 100 words, making the number 100 using various shapes, writing about what it would be like to be 100, and designing posters with 100 items. See the pictures below in our newsletter highlighting this amazing day of learning and opportunity!
Rising 9th graders and families, please be reminded that there will be an information day on Sunday, February starting at 3:00 p.m. at our high school auditorium. Please see the flyer below for additional information.
Please remember that teachers will be contacting parents to set up Parent-Teacher Conferences to review data and discuss academic and behavioral progress. Our goal is 100% participation for each grade level! I encourage all of our parents to become active members of our program and remember to visit our website and social media platforms regularly for current news and upcoming events. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 478-353-8490.
