Welcome Back to Lander Elementary!
2020-2021 School Year
Dear Lander Elementary Families,
As Principal of Lander Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year, it is my lucky number 7, 7th year as Principal of Lander and ninth year as a Mayfield Wildcat.
Our primary goals to start the year will be to help parents understand this new and changing model of education and how we are preparing to teach your children. Our teaching in the Spring was our best attempt at Emergency Remote Instruction, we had little to no experience with teaching in a remote environment and very little time to prepare. Our instruction this fall will be much more structured, accessible and comprehensive. While we know that there is no replacement for in-person teaching and learning, we are committed to doing our best to help each and every child learn. We are also prepared to pivot back to in-person instruction and support families that choose to remain at home, should this occur. As a former College basketball player, I remember we would specifically practice the "art" of pivoting, recently this has served me well!!
We know that we have sent out lots of information and this is overwhelming for us all. We look forward to sharing more details and answering questions at our parent orientation sessions. We also know that families are anxiously waiting to see who their child's teacher will be, this information will be in Infinite Campus, beginning on August 12th. Also, on August 12th your child's teacher will send you a link to sign up for a 1:1 orientation meeting with them. This will occur in-person at our school or on Zoom, based on your preference. Please remember that your child should be present at these meetings, we respectfully as for only one adult per household to attend in order to limit the number of visitors. 2nd-5th grade families should bring their device and Kdg-1st grade families will get a device when you come for the meeting (if you do not want an in-person meeting, we will arrange a different time to pick up the device).
Please feel free to call our office at (440)995-7350 or email me at fevans@mayfieldschools.org if you need anything.
Sincerely,
Felecia Evans
