This interactive Bible time is a great way for your family to gather around God's Word and read, listen, watch, sing, and do activities together that help you learn more about God's great love for you in Jesus.

Who do you listen to?

King David loved and served God, and God blessed him. David reigned forty years and left a peaceful kingdom to his son Solomon. Solomon started out well—he also loved and served God, he built a magnificent temple, and he was known throughout the world for his God-given wisdom. But Solomon loved many women, and he started trusting in marriage alliances instead of God to keep his kingdom at peace. His many foreign wives proved to be his undoing. When he became old, his wives convinced him to start worshiping false gods and idols—he even built temples to these gods! God became angry with Solomon and decided to take the kingdom away from his family. But God had promised that the Savior would come from David’s family, so Solomon’s son would keep Judah. Ten tribes would go to another man—one of Solomon’s servants!

Dear God, we are glad You are our King! Help us learn about Your love and faithfulness to us, especially how You kept Your promise to send a Savior. Amen.

• Why did God take the kingdom away from Solomon's son, Rehoboam?
• Why do you think Rehoboam didn't listen to the wise advisers?
• Both Rehoboam and Jeroboam wanted to get their own way. How do we try to get our own way? What is God’s way?

Solomon started out as a good king who loved God and followed his commands. But later, Solomon stopped listening to God and started praying to idols. God told Solomon that He would take the kingdom away from his son.

Rehoboam was proud and wanted to look strong. He wasn't concerned about God's people or about God.

Talk about how we sometimes try to get our own way. God’s way is different. God loves and cares for others. God showed His love by keeping His promise that a Savior would come from King David's descendants. God kept His promise in Jesus!

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and for always being faithful to us, even when we sin and don’t follow Your Word. Guide us this week to do Your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
