You wouldn't know it from today's weather, but it is definitely winter time! The students are doing a great job of remembering their coats, boots, hats, and gloves on the chillier days. Students will go outside for recess if the "feels like" temperature is 10 degrees or higher, so winter gear is a necessity to enjoy the time outdoors. Students should also bring snow pants to wear outside on days with snow. Please note that if students wear a coat to school, their teacher will require them to wear it to recess.

More details about District 300's winter weather plans was emailed to families on December 3rd. It is also in the button at the bottom of this newsletter.

Our Tier 1 Behavior focus continues to be all about self control! Self control is stopping yourself from doing something that you shouldn't be doing because it will impede your goals or hurt someone else. The most common example of physical self control that the staff have been giving the students is keeping their hands and feet to themselves. An example of verbal self control we have been using is to avoid blurting out in class and interrupting your teacher or classmates. An example of emotional self control is thinking about another student's feelings before you say something.

The students have also viewed this video clip entitled, "Why Do We Lose Control of Our Emotions?" It's a very student-friendly clip, but it's also a great watch for adults. Please take a look when you have a few spare minutes. Another way that parents and guardians can support their child in their self control work is to ask children for examples in which they demonstrated self control during their day. You might also share examples from your own day too. Thank you for talking to your children about self control.

¡Nuestro enfoque en el Comportamiento de Nivel 1 sigue siendo el autocontrol! El autocontrol es impedir que usted mismo haga algo que no debería hacer porque impedirá sus objetivos o dañará a otra persona. El ejemplo más común de autocontrol físico que el personal les ha estado dando a los estudiantes es mantener las manos y los pies quietos. Un ejemplo de autocontrol verbal que hemos estado usando es evitar soltar cosas en clase e interrumpir a tu profesor o compañeros. As you read this newsletter, the wonderful PTO Board is at Liberty setting up for the Holiday Shoppe! Students brought home information about the Shoppe in their backpacks last week and they will get to preview the Holiday Shoppe tomorrow...shopping starts on Wednesday. Come shop as a family on Friday night from 6:00pm-7:30pm. This is a great opportunity for students to buy gifts for their family members without having to fight the crowds at the stores. Thank you to the PTO for creating this experience for our students!

There are still some open snack donation slots and party helper slots on the Winter Holiday Party sign up. Holiday parties are on Friday, December 20th at 1:00pm. The children look forward to this event, so thank you in advance for any snacks you can give or time you can donate.

The Note of Appreciation program is continuing for the 2024-25 school year.

• What is the Note of Appreciation Program? The Note of Appreciation program allows families to recognize outstanding District 300 staff members who have made a positive impact on their students. Parents and guardians can nominate any staff member – teachers, paraeducators, school nurses, lunchroom staff, custodians, coaches, or others – by submitting a Note of Appreciation through this online form. Thank you for sharing your appreciation with the Liberty staff!
