Superintendent's Report
December 21, 2021
On This Evening's Agenda...
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight a few items on this evening's agenda that were not discussed in committee:
- Enrollment - Our current enrollment is 4,077 students, which is an increase of 135 students over last year.
- Extended School Year - Each summer students who qualify for Extended School Year (ESY) receive instruction in July and August to help them keep their skills sharp. The ESY dates are on the agenda for approval this evening. ESY planning will continue over the next several months.
- Increased Rates for Food Service Workers - To recruit and retain staff to ensure proper operations in our Food Services Department, we are seeking an increase in their hourly rates along with a responsibility stipend. Unlike other areas of the District, Food Services is self-funded.
- MOU for Nursing Staff - Our school nurses play a pivotal role in our COVID-19 processes. The purpose of this MOU is to compensate our nurses for the time they spend outside of their contractual days on contact tracing and communicating with families about COVID-19.
- Policies - We did not have a Policy Committee meeting in December; the first readings appear on this evening's agenda as a placeholder. The Policy Committee will review those policies again in January.
Health and Safety Plan Information
- Masking - Effective January 3, 2022, universal masking is required when we are in substantial or high transmission. Masking is recommended when we are in low or moderate transmission; however, for us to move from required to recommended masking we must be in low or moderate transmission for two consecutive weeks.
- Visitors and Volunteers - Visitors and volunteers during the school day will be permitted in our schools except when we are in high transmission. Principals may restrict the number of volunteers to ensure appropriate distancing can occur in classrooms.
All of our decisions will be driven by community transmission; each Tuesday we will continue to share our UD Municipality-Specific Transmission rates. We all have the ability to positively impact our transmission rate by practicing correct masking, proper distancing, and good hygiene.

In late January 2022 we will begin small, limited tours of the new SRMS. Tours will continue throughout the winter (weather permitting) and into the spring.
