Last day announced for 2024-25 school year
With the fourth quarter underway, the district has determined the last day of the 2024-25 school year for students. Assuming no unforeseen circumstances cause us to cancel school, the last day for students in grades K-11 will be May 23, which will be a half day. Students in the early childhood programs will have their last day on May 22.
High school finals will occur May 21-23 with building principals communicating the specific schedules to their school families and students at a later date. For more information or to subscribe to the district calendar, visit www.bluevalleyk12.org/calendar.
Every Day Counts – Attendance matters in final months of school year
As we head into the final months of the school year, we want to emphasize an important message: Attendance matters. In Blue Valley, we’ve seen attendance rates lower than in previous years, and while there are many reasons students miss school, we know that being present each day is key to success at every grade level.
Timely Attendance is Essential
From our youngest learners to high school seniors, arriving on time and attending regularly keeps students on track. Even short absences can make it harder to catch up, especially in fast-moving high school courses.
Learning is More Than Just Assignments
While makeup work helps, nothing replaces in-class experiences — discussions, group projects and hands-on activities that bring learning to life.
Plan Ahead for Appointments
Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours. Frequent absences add up quickly, making it harder for students to stay engaged.
Supporting Students with School Avoidance
If your child is hesitant to attend school — especially on test days — address it early. Avoidance can lead to stress and falling behind. Work with your child’s school to create a plan that supports both their academic and emotional well-being.
🎙 Listen to the Conversation
Our #BVUnmuted podcast from earlier this year dives deeper into why attendance matters. Superintendent Dr. Tonya Merrigan is joined by administrators Leah Vomhof, Stacey Sperry and Dr. Cory Cox to discuss how attendance impacts student success.

Community Connection with the BOE set for April 24
Blue Valley community members have an opportunity to engage with the Board of Education from 6-7 p.m. on April 24 at the Blue Valley District Office.
Community Connection gives Blue Valley community members an opportunity to talk with Board of Education members in a less formal setting. The round-table conversation format allows for great conversations about topics of interest in the community.
A sign-up is available for patrons who have questions for board members, but no sign-up is required to attend. More information about Community Connection with the BOE is available on the district’s website.
