HPE Families,
Wow! I can't believe how quickly the 2023-24 school year has flown by! Thank you for sharing your wonderful kiddos with us this year! Wrapping up my first year as the principal, I am so grateful for all of the wonderful experiences and memories that we've made. I appreciate the partnerships and family support throughout this school year. As the school year draws to a close, we reflect on the wonderful learning, sharing, and growing experiences we have had together. We have investigated, inquired, had study trips, met with experts who have visited to share their knowledge, danced, sung, shared learning with families, participated in service learning, shown big love, laughed, learned, and so much more. Thank you for partnering with us to support the growth of each of our kids. We wish our 4th grade students and families great success as they move on to intermediate and look forward to seeing all the great things to come! To our K-3rd grade students and families - we are excited to hear about your wonderful summer adventures when we see you in August. We are so lucky and thankful to serve students and families at Harrison Parkway! Have a wonderful summer break.
Mrs. Landez
Before the Bell
Be sure to SAVE THE DATE to help “ring” in the new 2024-25 school year at Before the Bell! This districtwide celebration will take place on Thursday, August 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Fishers Nickel Plate AMP located at 6 Municipal Drive.
Be sure to wear your walking shoes and dress for the weather as you’ll want to make your way around to all the different informational booths hosted by our schools, departments, educational and community partners. In addition, there will be a variety of free activities to enjoy (face painting, balloon artists, inflatables, Touch-a-Bus, FFA petting zoo, games, and prize giveaways) along with a full stage line-up of student performances. Food trucks and vendors will also be on-site with tasty treats, so you can grab a bite to eat while you explore Before the Bell.
Rental iPad Return Information
The following information only applies to students and families who rented an iPad from HSE Schools this year. We ask these families to carefully review the following information.
When and Where Will IPAD Rentals be Collected?
Rental iPads will be collected from students during the school day on May 28th and May 29th.
What Needs to be Returned?
All students will return their rented HSE iPad and cases (Standard Cover or Keyboard Cover).
What About Charging Bricks and Cords?
Rented cords and bricks will not be collected. If you are a new renter, you are welcome to keep the rented cord and brick that were issued to you. You may use the one initially provided to you or you may provide your own.
What Do I Need to do to Prepare the IPAD for Return?
Do not reset the device. Devices must show student identification information when returned for security purposes.
We are changing how we issue iPads this fall. Instead of wiping iPads to give to new students the next school year, we will be boxing all undamaged iPads as is and returning them to the same student in the fall. Considering this information, please take the following steps to ensure your student’s iPad is ready to use this fall.
- Students should wipe down/clean their iPads prior to returning them. Please remove stickers and clean off any food/debris from the case.
- Students should charge their iPads to at least 50% before turning them in.
- Students must remove their passcodes before collection.
- Take a picture of your student’s iPad. Please take a date/time stamped picture of your student’s iPad while the screen is on with the student’s login information visible. This will ensure that your student receives their iPad in the same condition that it was returned in.
- DO NOT erase/reset iPads. Your student will receive their iPad this fall, so iPads should not be erased.
REMOVE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON THE DEVICE
- Open settings.
- Tap screen time.

- Tap turn off screen time.
REMOVE THE PASSCODE

- Tap turn off passcode.
- Reenter passcode

RETURN THE DEVICE
- Bring the device to school.
- Return the device to the Building Technology Specialist.
- Receive the *return receipt indicating obvious damaged or undamaged status.
*Further detailed inspections will occur post return and charges may be applied if damage is discovered.
What if my IPAD is Damaged? What are the Fees?
Upon collection, the iPad and case/keyboard will be quarantined for two weeks. A thorough inspection will later assess the working condition of the iPad and case/keyboard and images will be taken to document such damage. Any damage to the iPad and/or case/keyboard will result in fees being assessed to the student’s account. Following an inspection, the iPad will be erased of all content and stored for the summer.
Sample fees that could be applied to the student’s account:
- Missing loaner brick that cannot be reissued $19
- Missing loaner cord/damaged loaner cord that cannot be reissued $19

Recess Policy at HSE
Recess will be held outdoors whenever possible. Precipitation, sunshine, cloud cover, wind chill, temperature, etc. are all considered when a decision is made for indoor recess. In general, recess will be held indoors when it is raining, or the temperature/wind chill falls below 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Conversely, if 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher heat index (relative humidity and temperature) is reached, the school will take special precautions for any outdoor activity and teachers will use extreme caution while monitoring students at recess. In addition, students will be provided ample amounts of water before and during recess; Recesses will be shortened or may be moved indoors at the discretion of the principal or designee; Children will be watched/monitored carefully for necessary action. These temperatures are based on recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The full recess policy can be accessed in the student handbook: https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1691521899/hsek12inus/q7xtlrb1x9zozvwu9p61/ElementaryHandbook-APPROVED-23-24.pdf
