Message from the desk of Elizabeth Ihle
Dear VCMS Families,
Greetings Viper Families! I hope you all are looking forward to Spring Break. As we approach this final season of the 2023-2024 school year, I wanted to remind you of a few upcoming events and things happening here you will want to remember. First and foremost, please remind your children that academically this is the time to remain diligent and focused on classwork and assignments. Taking advantage of Viper Academy, individual teacher help sessions, and the extra hour of light will help them be as prepared as possible for final exams and assessments. We also have two of our remaining field trips for the school year left - 8th graders will go to Six Flags on April 19th and 6th graders will go to Fernbank on April 30th. Other end of the year activities include our 8th grade dance, picnic, and final walk through. All events that truly make the year memorable for our students as they get ready to say goodbye to middle school and hello to high school. For our current 6th and 7th graders, this is the time they can think about what they want to get involved with next year either with clubs, sports, or academics.
Milestone assessments will also begin at the end of April. Please keep in mind this is a great opportunity for your child to practice test taking skills, demonstrate what they know, and end the year strong. We value growth and learning demonstrated from one year to the next. These scores are simply one more data point we can use to better prepare students for the following year, understand where your child is on their academic journey and celebrate their learning.
Thank you to those who have donated to our VCMS Legacy Lane. As of last night, we have raised $4,792 towards our goal of $5,000! A big thank you to Village Pediatrics for their recent generous donation of $500 and the Becker Village for the collection of $1313. Any monies raised OVER our goal will still go to this space for yearly upkeep, additional benches, birdhouses and/or windchimes. After Spring Break, we will be hosting a grade level competition to see which grade can raise the most. The competition runs between April 10th and April 18th and tables will be set up in the rotunda for students to donate to the Legacy Lane. 100% of profits will go to the Legacy Lane. This is an initiative we are doing in conjunction with our 25th year anniversary as a school. We are creating a space out front with benches, stepping stones, and a standing plaque to recognize those we've lost. Please see the flyer below for more information. If you have any questions, please reach out. to me at eihle@forsyth.k12.ga.us.
With warm regards,
Elizabeth Ihle

This is our 4th tournament this year and couldn't be prouder of the students! They have all improved so much this year! This was a stellar tournament for the Vipers. Ashna J. and Kriti S. our Novice team has received 2nd place as a team, winning all 4 of their debates! Also, our Varsity team, Diti P. and Anushka P. has received 2nd place as a team, winning 3 out 4 of their debates! For individual speakers award Aadhya O. from our Novice team received 2nd place and Diti P. from our Varsity team received 4th place. Our past 2 tournaments we have placed 2nd and 3rd place for the Sweepstakes Award. This means as a school we earned the points for top teams and top individual debaters.
In addition, AUDL also calculates our number of volunteers that assist with running the tournament. This means we've won this award because of our awesome debate skills AND our tremendous parent volunteerism!
Thank you to our amazing judges that volunteered once again to help judge our tournament! We couldn't not do this with your support and love!

VCMS Media Center
This month Ms. Sands' class had a great time learning about fossils in the media center. We examined real fossils collected by our very own, Dr. Propes. After we studied real fossils, we made our own salt dough fossils using collected shells.
Spring Book Fair
A big thank you to our VCMS community for volunteering your time and for donating items to our Book Fair & blow pop fundraiser! Your generosity helped make our fundraiser a great success AND great fun for our students.

Staff Reads
Read by Ms. Messer
It is a retelling of the Arabian Nights/Aladdin legends from pre-Islamic Arabia. It is so well written. I am only half way through and cannot wait to finish.
Read by Ms. Shelley
Holly Black was my favorite author as a child. I loved her novels about the Faerie realm and the courts of the Fae. From the ages of nine to fourteen the only books I would read for pleasure HAD to be about Faeries. When I saw that Holly Black was back to writing her YA Faerie books I was so excited! It took a while, but I finally have had the time to listen to some of the audiobooks for this series and, wow! I am on such such a nostalgia trip!
The way that Black details the glimmering, grimy, and even gruesome ways of the Fae courts is still so enchanting. Her tone throughout her work is such a great amalgam of grunge-edge meets high fantasy. I've never found another author set the mood of their novels quite like she does.
Read by Ms. Macdonald
I find the book interesting because it is a memoir of the author dealing with her new diagnosis of autism. She always knew there was something different about herself but couldn't figure out what it was until she finally got this diagnosis. It is interesting reading about this disorder through a person's lens who actually lives with it.
