NEWS AND INFORMATION
CAR LINE PROCEDURES
The drop off line continued to get better each day! Thank you!!! For your reference, we will continue to share the video for a few weeks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGh2xyAjlr8
A few reminders:
- Please share the video with family/friends who might help you with pick up and drop off. Specifically, if your high school student is dropping off their sibling please make sure they are aware of the routines.
- Remind your walkers/bike riders to cross at the crosswalks. It's been reported that we have students crossing Okemos Road at various spots.
- Do not use shortcut spots to drop or pick up your child. By doing so, you are placing yourself, your child and others at danger. The building is open at 7:20 to help with the morning routines and our library is open until 4:00. These extended hours allows for all to enter and leave the building safely.
CMS LIBRARY HOURS
Our library is open after school Monday - Thursday from 2:50 - 4:00. This is a time for students to connect with one another and complete homework. Tutors from OHS Action program will join us Tuesday & Thursday beginning September 10th

OHS BAND WASH-A-THON
Please consider allowing the OHS band members to shine your car at their annual band wash-a-thon.
CADL
The Capital Area District Library is partnering with school districts in its service area to provide students with access to their educational resources. Through this initiative, Chippewa students can get a public library card no matter where they live. It gives them access to books, audiobooks, magazines and more in both digital and physical formats.
Having a Student Success account requires release of directory information to CADL. Any parent/guardian who does NOT want their student to have an account can opt out by contacting their building librarian by September 13, 2024.
NWEA Testing
Each year, all Kindergarten through eighth-grade students are given the NWEA Reading and Math assessments during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each screener will be given as a whole class supervised by your student’s Language Arts (September 11 and 12) and Math (September 9 and 10)teacher. Please make sure your child's device is charged so they are ready for testing. You do not need to do anything else to prepare your students for these assessments. In addition, if your student is absent, they will have an opportunity to complete the assessment on an alternate day during the testing window. We use these assessments along with other data to help us determine the specific needs of each student. If you should have any questions regarding the NWEA assessments please reach out to your child’s math or language arts teacher. You can also reach out to our MTSS Coach, Lori Mazzullo at lori.mazzullo@okemosk12.net). Thank you for partnering with us for this important assessment!

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Calling all students and parents interested in joining the Chippewa Science Olympiad Team! First meeting will be Friday, September 27th at 3:00 PM in the tech room (room number). Science Olympiad is a competitive team that welcomes all students to compete in a variety of science-based events. The time commitment will be most Fridays after school with additional time spent on building or studying on your own, and we will attend at least one Invitational Tournament in January or February. There will be a cost for registration and team T-shirts, TBD. The Regional Tournament will be March 15, 2025. The top 3 teams from Regionals attend the State Tournament on April 26, 2025. Parent involvement is needed for our team to be successful. Please contact Mrs. Kirsten Robinson at kirstenfrobinson@gmail.com or Yunyan Shen at shenp86@gmail.com, and attend on Friday September 27th if you are interested!
TCBA YOUTH CYCLING CLUB
The TCBA Youth Cycling Club is hosting the 4th annual Fall Fun Ride coming up on October 19th, 2024 from 9am-12pm! We will start at the parking lot in front of the Supreme Court and take the scenic River Trail around the Lansing area. The fall colors will provide a perfect backdrop for this gorgeous ride, fueled by snacks provided by our generous sponsors, TCBA. This ride (under the Tri-County Bicycle Association) not only offers a chance for adventure but also an opportunity for learning, connection, and community involvement. So saddle up, grab your helmets, and join us for a morning of a safe, fun, educational, and explorational event as we pedal through pretty sights of fall in Michigan.
We will also need adult ride leaders to ensure the safety of the ride, so there is a volunteer option when signing up. Your support is very much appreciated, please help spread the word about this event!
Registration is open, sign up here:
