Character Strong
Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. Integrated into morning meeting lessons, Character Strong helps build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.
The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:
A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.
Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.
Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.

Cold Weather Updates
Dear Families,
As the weather changes quickly this time of year, we want to remind everyone about our coat and jacket policy for outdoor play. It’s important that students come to school prepared for fluctuating temperatures so they can stay comfortable and safe during recess.
Please make sure your child has a warm coat or jacket each day, especially as we head into the colder months. Our outdoor playtime continues unless the weather conditions are unsafe (such as heavy rain, extreme cold, or snow).
If your family needs support in providing cold weather gear for your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help and will do our best to ensure every student has what they need to stay warm. For more details on our outdoor play requirements, please refer to the graphic below.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students prepared and comfortable for outdoor activities!
PTO Updates
We hold PTO meetings every month and would love to see more families get involved. It's a great way to have a voice in your child's education and help make their school experience both fun and engaging, while also supporting our dedicated teachers. It truly takes teamwork and commitment from everyone to create a wonderful educational environment for our students. We hope to see you there!
Breakfast with Santa
Our PTO hosted a wonderful Breakfast with Santa event last Saturday, and it was a big success! Families and students gathered to enjoy delicious pancakes, create holiday crafts, and take photos with Santa. It was a fantastic experience for our community. A huge thank you to the PTO for planning and organizing such a memorable event, to the staff for their time and help, and to all the families who came out to support the PTO.
Be sure to stay on the lookout for more fun events sponsored by our PTO in the future!
December 9-13th Recap
December Community Giving Day: Holiday Headgear
For our December Community Giving Day, students and staff were encouraged to wear festive holiday headgear and bring donations for the Safe Harbor Family Center. A big thank you to all the families who contributed!
Student Council Taste Testing
Our Student Council had the exciting opportunity to taste test new menu items that could potentially be featured on our school lunch menu! Some of the delicious options included Mozzarella Rippinz, Parmesan Garlic Chicken Bold Bites, Dill Chicken Breast, Buffalo Chicken Bites, Dinner Rolls, and Chicken Enchilada Empanadas. Along with other students from the Junior High and High School, the Student Council members sampled these tasty dishes and provided valuable feedback. It was a fun and flavorful experience that gave our students a chance to be a part of shaping our school's lunch offerings!
Pre-K Shoutout!
A huge shoutout to our Pre-K students for their hard work in learning school expectations! They've earned special recognition from teachers throughout the building for walking quietly in the hallway, especially when others are conducting assessments. It’s truly impressive to see our 3- and 4-year-olds understanding the importance of being quiet, which can be challenging for little ones, but they are doing an amazing job. I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs. Vasquez's classroom, and both Pre-K classes (Simpson and Vasquez) were sitting respectfully on the rug, fully engaged in their learning. I was so impressed that I had to snap a picture of them showing us they were ready to learn. Keep up the fantastic work, Pre-K, and thank you to their wonderful teachers for all their hard work!
Friday Assembly
Friday assemblies in the gym are an exciting way for students to kick off their day. The assembly is all about getting pumped up and celebrating the great things that happened throughout the week. Mrs. Small leads the event by reviewing the highlights she observed, announcing birthdays, recognizing positive office referrals, and awarding winner for the Mable Woolsey Way Ticket drawing. Students also get to show their school spirit by clapping along to the school fight song together.
Learning German
This Friday, we were thrilled to have Mrs. Dunlap, a high school teacher, join us at our assembly, accompanied by two of her students. They introduced our students to some German phrases, teaching us how to say "Merry Christmas," "Good Morning," and "Thank You" in German. To make it even more special, Mrs. Dunlap and her students treated us to a performance of classic Christmas songs in German. Our students had a great time singing along to holiday favorites like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells! A big thank you to Mrs. Dunlap and her students for sharing this festive and educational experience with us. Be sure to check out the videos below!

TURKEY CHALLENGE WINNERS!
Congratulations to First Grade for winning the Turkey Challenge! They were the first grade level to fill their board by consistently following expectations and being recognized by other teachers. It was a close race, but First Grade filled their board first! As a reward, they will enjoy a special activity next week. Great job, First Grade! Keep up the fantastic work following expectations and leading by example!

Community Partners
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community partners for their generous donations to support our students. From food and clothing to hygiene products and snacks, these contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of our students and families. We truly appreciate your willingness to step up and lend a helping hand. Your continued support means the world to us, and we are grateful for the positive impact you're making in our school community. Thank you!
A note from the Christmas Box Project Committee:
The Christmas Boxes Project for 2024 was a heartwarming success, and we owe it all to the incredible generosity of our community. A sincere thank you to the Knoxville businesses and church members who donated to this meaningful cause, as well as to the American Legion for the use of their building and the volunteers who sorted through the food. We are deeply grateful to the schools for hosting food drives, resulting in large donations of nonperishable items for the baskets. Special thanks to the Jr. and Sr. High School students who helped carry and load the boxes with such enthusiasm.
We also want to express our appreciation to members from Grace Lutheran, United Methodist, Christian, and Presbyterian Churches who were instrumental in the project, from ordering food and purchasing toiletries to sorting, packing fresh foods, and loading the boxes. Volunteers picked up food from River Bend and helped deliver seven boxes to homebound individuals. This is truly a community-driven project, and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s dedication and support.
This year, we were able to assist 63 families, 220 individuals, and 101 children, ensuring they had a brighter holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of HOPE, we were also able to include new coats, vests, hats, and gloves for recipients. Any remaining items were donated back to the schools to be distributed where needed.
On behalf of the Christmas Box Committee and all the families who received boxes, we extend our deepest thanks. Your kindness embodies the true spirit of the holiday season, and your support made all the difference. Thank you for making this year’s project a success!

Nurse News
Parents, with the changing of the season, the need for Tylenol and Ibuprofen has increased significantly. Unfortunately our supply cannot meet the demand of the students. If your child is one that needs over the counter medications regularly, please bring those items to the school for your student's use. If you would like to make a donation of Tylenol or Ibuprofen to add to our stock, the most used/needed forms are liquid and chewable. We greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter.
