Principal's Message
It seems like we were just gathering for Open House and here we are, enjoying the last day of school. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and your students this year and seeing the academic growth that has taken place not only in the classroom, but socially and emotionally as well.
It is important to help curb the summer slide, which is a decline in a child's academic skills that can occur over the summer break. Learning through the summer means providing children with opportunities to continue practicing what they have learned in the classroom. Examples are:
1) Introducing a summer reading program and/or visiting the Douglas County Library regularly
2) Practicing math skills in the grocery store and in the kitchen
3) Working on a summer folder if your child's teacher sent one home
4) Learning about nature through garden activities
5) Doing a DIY project
6) Writing letters and addressing envelopes to family members and mailing them
I hope that you have a great summer with your family. We wish the 5th grade alumni well in their new adventures at Discovery Middle School and we welcome the rest of the students back in the fall!
