Family Resource Newsletter
Family involvement is essential to student success!
Cicero District 99 continues its efforts to engage families with their students' learning at home.
Through the Strategic Planning process, community feedback indicated that parents want support and resources to use at home with their children. The purpose of this newsletter is designed to do just that! Each month, the topics and suggestions will align with classroom instruction.
Working together, we can improve outcomes for all our students!

Dual Language Classrooms - Two Teacher Model
Cicero District 99 is delighted to share an exciting development in our Dual Language (DL) educational approach that we believe will greatly enhance your child's learning experience.
In addition to a One-Teacher Model for DL where all the instruction is given by one teacher, we also have a Two-Teacher Model in some DL classrooms. Both innovative models aim to provide students with a rich, bilingual education while also fostering their overall academic growth.
What is the Dual Language Two-Teacher Model?
This model involves two teachers in each classroom, each specializing in a different language. One teacher will instruct students primarily in English, while the other will use primarily Spanish to deliver lessons. This approach allows students to immerse themselves in both languages throughout the school day.
How Will the 2-Teacher Model Work?
Classroom Structure: Students will rotate between the two teachers, each providing instruction in their respective language.
Curriculum Integration: The curriculum is designed to ensure that both languages are used effectively in teaching all subjects.
Support: Both teachers will work closely together to ensure a seamless educational experience and to support students in their language development.
We are confident that the Dual Language Two-Teacher Model will offer an enriching and engaging learning experience for our students. We appreciate your support and partnership as we embark on this exciting journey together.
Thank you for your continued involvement and dedication to your child’s education.
Bilingual Story Time
Reading with your students is very beneficial - especially in two languages! Here is an activity where you can read the fable "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" in the language of your choice. After reading the fable, have your child re-tell the story in the OTHER language. This activity is beneficial for building student's listening and speaking skills in both languages!
SEL Resources
As the new school year begins, supporting our youth's mental health is more important than ever. The new school year can bring feelings of both anxiety and excitement as students transition into a new grade, perhaps a new school, and are all in turn learning and growing into who they are.
We have provided a Back to School resource packet for parents and teachers who are navigating through this time. Click here to access to the flyer.
By working together, we can create an environment where our children thrive. Remember, Care Solace offers valuable mental health care coordination services to connect you with community-based providers for counseling, therapy, and more.
