North High Newsletter
January 2025
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
As we begin the Spring Semester 2025, I want to provide a few reminders to support students’ success.
- Classes resume January 6th (A-Day)—students will report to Viking Time first to get an updated copy of their schedule. Please see below for the bell schedule we will follow on Monday.
- First bell rings at 7:30am
- Tardy bell rings at 7:40am
- Dismissal is at 3:05pm
We appreciate your help with getting students to school on-time. Leave a message on the attendance line if your student(s) will be absent. See the rest of this newsletter for important reminders about our Electronic Devices/Cell Phone Expectations, the upcoming January Late Start Day, and Prom Attendance Expectations. Be sure to discuss these with your students.
For families with students in 8th grade, we invite you to attend Open House on Wednesday, January 22nd from 6-8pm. We are excited to highlight all of the wonderful educational opportunities available at North High!
We are looking forward to another great semester of teaching and learning. Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.
Go Vikings!
Cell Phone Expectations Reminder
PLEASE NOTE: All cell phones and earbuds/headphones must be off and away in all instructional areas of the building. This includes classrooms, the library, and anywhere learning is taking place. Students will be permitted to have their phones out during lunch and passing periods (as needed).
It is crucial that students come to school with charged iPads every day. Students will not be allowed to use their phones for class work.
Thank you for reinforcing this information with your student and partnering with North High.
Late Start - Tuesday 1/28/25
Attendance Matters!
Be Tardy Free and Win!
Centennial School Year!
The 2024-2025 school year marks 100 years since North High first opened its doors. We have events and activities scheduled throughout the school year to celebrate Omaha's ORIGINAL North High School turning 100! Additional details about each event will be shared closer to the event date. Please see the included graphic for a year-long overview of the events planned for the centennial.
Junior/Senior Prom Expectations
We are looking forward to a wonderful Prom for Juniors & Seniors and their approved guests on Saturday, April 26th. Please note, attending extracurricular activities, such as school dances, is a privilege. Students are expected to demonstrate the values of being a Viking consistently. Therefore, students in good standing must meet the following expectations to attend:
- Maintain regular attendance
Be on grade level track with your credits
Passing a minimum 6 of 8 classes
No out of school suspensions the week of the dance
National Honor Society
The North High School chapter of the National Honor Society has made some changes to our invitee requirements and application processes for students wishing to be a part of NHS for 2025-2026 school year. So, please read the following information carefully!
Current NHS officers will be delivering invitations to current 10th and 11th graders who have a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.5 after grades for the fall 2024 semester were added to their cumulative GPA. These invitations will be hand-delivered during Viking Time during the third week of this semester (January 21-24). Students should bring these invitations home to share important information about how to obtain instructions and updates for the application process for the 2025-2026 school year.
Parents/Guardians of invitees will have a copy of this letter sent to their email address currently on file on the Parent Portal. So, please make sure your information is up to date so that you aren't missed when those go out!

Vikings Give Back!
During Potato Club's December meeting, students worked on creating tie blankets to donate to the Open Door Mission to spread warmth and cheer during the holiday season. Our next meeting will be January 6, 2025. See you tater, best spuds!
In December, North High hosted our 2nd annual toy drive! All toys were donated to the Open Door Mission Toy and Joy shop. Thank you to everyone who donated to help make the holiday season special for the Omaha community!
