Abel is #1 in the county!
Congratulations to Abel as he is #1 in Saratoga County for First in Math. Abel plans to compete in the virtual regional competition. Below please see the Interview that Mrs. Griffiths had with Abel about First in Math.
First in Math is an online practice site that utilizes game-style activities to help students master facts, practice procedural skills, engage in problem solving and develop a deep understanding of numeracy and how numbers relate to each other. Immediate feedback ensures that students are engaged and motivated to practice in order to retain various skills.
What inspires you to work hard on First in Math?
First in Math helps me learn about mathematics.
What do you enjoy most about First in Math?
The estimation game is about more or less and it gives me 12 stickers and I already mastered level one. I am working on level two.
Which games do you recommend to your peers?
K-2 How many?
You have to match numbers with a group of dots. It also gives you 12 stickers.
When did you first realize you were gifted in mathematics and what advice do you have for friends that might not think they can be good at math too?
It started in Reflex Math and I noticed I was really good at times and division and it inspired me to get really good at First in Math.
I believe I can help others be more smarter, because I can believe in them.
The secret to getting good at math is playing games that give you the most stickers.
Do you think First in Math helps you better understand lessons that are taught during math time?
I go to the practice gyms and work on addition (even double digits) and it helps me learn more math so I do better in my regular math too.

Monthly Choose Kindness Lesson: Courage
What is courage?
“Courage is standing up for what you believe in, even if others don’t. You can have courage and be kind all at the same time. When you have courage, you will gain the respect of others around you. Be courageous!”
—Jimmer Fredette
Courage is choosing to face hard things in order to do something important. Another word for courage is bravery. Courage is strength in the face of fear, uncertainty, adversity, pain, or other negative consequences. Courage is when you have decided that something you need to do or say is more important than your fear or the negative consequences that may follow. Courage does NOT mean being reckless.
Share a time when you showed courage and talk about how it made you feel.

Learning Blocks
In case you haven't heard, the groundhog saw his shadow and thus we are expecting another six weeks of winter!
The frigid temps in our area often correlate with increases in screen time for young children as they retreat inside to keep warm.
Might we suggest checking out the following educational programs to keep the youngest learners in your home entertained while also reinforcing numeracy and literacy skills. These concepts are designed to build the most basic foundational skills of numeracy, though older siblings might enjoy them too!
Numberblocks is an educational CBeebies cartoon for kids, teaching children how to count and explore addition and subtraction with singular blocks that join together to make increasingly bigger numbers.
Alphablocks, also created by CBeebies cartoon, helps children master the alphabet and enhance their reading abilities. The animated letters make reading an entertaining and engaging experience.
Check out this episode where the worlds of Numberblocks and Alphablocks collide: Alphablocks and Numberblocks First Meet
Watch and have your child(ren) let us know what they think!
Student Health Services
Our district has partnered with Saratoga Hospital to offer a Student Health Services initiative. An advanced practice provider will be available in our district to offer FREE medical care for all students. Some of their services will include: care for minor injuries and illnesses; mental health consultation; acute care prescription medication; and sports physicals. These professionals will share their time between the Elementary School and the Oak Street campus.
In order for students to take advantage of this great opportunity, parents/guardians must sign and return the consent form to their building principal. If you would like to learn more about this service, please follow this link to a recording of our presentation from December 6th, 2022. The Google Slide presentation is also available here. Should you have questions regarding this service, please call 518-654-9005 or 518-654-2960 Extension, 3446.
