Term 2 Week 3 Tuesday 13th May 2025
Principals Message
Kia ora koutou,
Now in our third week of term students are well back into their learning and we are seeing some great progress. We are also well into our gymnastics program with Active Attitude. This year we are swapping out the old horse apparatuses for a parallel bar. Thank you to the PTA for funding the equipment and for Active Attitude for lending their bar while ours is on back order.
This term our year 3-8 students have started the new maths programs “Maths No Problem.” The Maths No Problem program has a text book aspect to it but its strength lies in the cooperative learning times where students build their knowledge and maths understanding.
We hope to see improvements in maths knowledge but also maths language skills. Teachers have been busy growing their understanding and skills in the program and Paul Ruddell has been doing some modelling lessons in each class.
Last Friday we said goodbye to Amy Geyer who has been teaching in Room 1 and 4 for this year. Amy has won a teaching position in Auckland. We wish Amy the very best and thank her for her time and effort. Taking over from Amy will be Rhonda Sparrow in Room 1 and Cindy Stafford will be back full time in Room 4 for the remainder of the year.
Our Tahi Bees student group also had their last session last week. They have been an amazing group, and it was very obvious how much they have learnt in the program. In term 3 we will choose a new group to join the program. We will shortly have honey from the program to sell at school. This hands-on learning experience reflects our school's value of "Respect for Our Environment" in action.
Historically, Kōkopu School has been fortunate to have high attendance rates, and we are grateful to parents for prioritising their children's education. To continue supporting this, we have implemented the Ministry of Education's Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) program. You can find an infographic below detailing Kōkopu School's attendance this year. We hope to also be providing personalised attendance information for your child via email each term.
Regards

WINTER SPORTS
Tomorrow our Year 7 and 8 students will be travelling to Kensington Park to participate in Winter Sports with other school from the Whangarei District. We will leave Kokopu at 9am SHARP! Starting times for all sports is 10:00am. Teams should assemble at their respective venues by 9:30am.
There will be a briefing at 9:45am sharp at most venues. All competitions will be finished
by 2:00pm.
Our children are participating in hockey, basketball, badminton and gymnastics.
Each child needs to take responsibility for themselves for whichever sport they are participating in. For basketball and badminton they will need shoes for the court. For hockey they will need shoes for the turf and mouthguards. If they have their own hockey stick/gear they can bring that along too.
Please send them with food, water bottles, sunblock, hats and mouth guards for children participating in contact sports.
