The Weekly Bulli-tin
TERM 2 - Week 4
Principal's Report
Helping Your Child Prepare for Assessments and Exams
As the formal half-yearly assessment and examination period is underway, it’s natural for both students and families to feel a mix of anticipation and anxiety. Assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and growth, and with the right support at home, they can approach these moments with confidence.
Here are a few ways you can help your child prepare effectively:
1. Establish a Routine
Consistency helps reduce stress. Set up a daily study schedule that includes short, focused study sessions with breaks in between. Encourage your child to start revising early, rather than waiting until the last minute.
2. Create a Positive Study Environment
A quiet, comfortable, and well-lit space, free from distractions, can make a big difference. Help your child organise their materials and create a to-do list to manage subjects or topics that need attention.
3. Promote Healthy Habits
Good nutrition, regular sleep, and some physical activity are essential for brain function and focus. Encourage early bedtimes during the exam period and limit screen time, especially before bedtime.
4. Be Encouraging and Supportive
Remind your child that their worth is not defined by test scores. Celebrate their effort and progress, and reassure them that it’s okay to make mistakes—what matters most is learning from them.
5. Stay Informed
Keep in touch with teachers or check the school’s communication channels to stay updated on exam schedules, expectations, and resources. If your child is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for support.
6. Practice Calmness
Teach your child simple stress management techniques, such as deep breathing or short mindfulness exercises. Modelling a calm attitude toward exams can also help ease their worries.
At Bulli High School we are committed to helping every student succeed and thrive. Thank you for being our partners in learning. With your support, we are confident your children will rise to the occasion and do their very best.

Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher interviews for years 7, 11 and 12 will be held between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday 10th June in the school Library and English/Science block. Parent/Teacher interviews are one of the few occasions that teaching staff get to meet face to face with members of the school community, and as such are always highly valued.
The interview evening for years 8, 9 and 10 will be scheduled in early term 3. More information will be provided closer to the date.
Disability Carer Education Program
The ISLHD Carer Program invites carers who are supporting a child to young adult aged person with disability, to attend this free online workshop in June/July 2025.
Facilitated by the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Carer Program, with presentations from guest speakers, this workshop provides information on supports and services for unpaid carers. The workshop provides an opportunity for carers to meet and connect with other carers, as well as learn about support, services, and resources.
The workshops will be held online, during school hours, on four consecutive Thursdays.
12 June: 9.15am – 1.00pm, and
19, 26 June and 3 July: 9.30am – 12.45pm

Careers
Here we go - first article in the Bulli-tin for 2025!
What a start to the Term it has been as the newly appointed Careers Adviser to your wonderful school. I jumped in with the very speedy organisation of the Illawarra Careers Expo (Thank You for your prompt return of notes and payments!), and have the Year 10 UOW Discovery Day, TAFE Trade Readiness, UOW Presentations/Early Admissions Workshop for Years 11 & 12 and Subject Selection coming up as well.
So apart from the Expo, where the students really enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the exhibitors present on the day, I don’t have much to report on. But I do have a lot to share with you to support your child with their career and transition planning!
New addition – Bulli HS Careers and Transitions Hub
Firstly, we have a new resource for staff, students and parents called the Bulli HS Careers and Transitions Hub. It’s not a website, and you do not require any logins/passwords/codes to access the information found on the hub. Please see the flyer below to check it out and then save the page in your favourites! It will also be added to the Careers Page of the Bulli High School website.
If you would like to be sent a weekly newsletter about all things Careers and Transitions, please register your name and email address on the home page of the hub.
Head directly to the hub and access the "Work Experience" section to find all the documents required for Work Experience at Bulli High School.
https://studyworkgrow.com/education/school/bulli-high-school-pathways-hub/
I will also post additional information like upcoming events, employment and excursion opportunities, and copies of permission notes on here as well.
Work Experience
A reminder that Year 10 students are invited to participate in Work Experience this term in Weeks 6, 9 or 10. You can locate all required forms and instructions on “how” in the Work Experience Section of the Bulli HS Careers and Transitions Hub.
If your son or daughter are sitting on a fence about doing it, here are some reasons for them to organise it.
Have you thought about Work Experience, yet? (An extract from a Study, Work, Grow article https://studyworkgrow.com/have-you-thought-about-work-experience-yet/

Year 12 – University Applications, Apprenticeships and Further Study
I have been added to the Year 12 Wellbeing Google Classroom – so I will be posting reminders and information for students as the term progresses on here. My first post last Friday was about Medical Entry, USI numbers, and How to Apply. Just a bit of light reading over the weekend!
It’s the time of year where students are able to begin their Universities Admissions Centre application for 2026 and apply for the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS), the easiest Early Admissions application a Year 12 student can do! They can receive an Early Offer in November.
Although not all universities or courses are available for early offers, it is recommended for all Year 12 students to submit an SRS application to widen their opportunities without all the additional fuss of personal statements or extracurricular activities. It just takes a few seconds.
Educational Access Scheme (EAS)
Students who have experienced significant challenges in Year 11 and/or Year 12, which have affected their studies and grades, should be looking to submit an application for UAC’s Educational Access Scheme.
University admissions equity schemes are a vital part of ensuring fair access to higher education and are designed to remove barriers that prevent capable students from reaching their full potential.

It is also worthwhile reading this article explaining what adjustment factors are in relation to EAS.

UAC Digital Youtube Channel has a truckload of useful videos, webinairs and information to support students with university-related process and decisions. Please check it out! https://www.youtube.com/@UACDigital
Student Pathways Survey
In Week 5, Year 12 students will be completing the Student Pathways Survey to provide information and insight into their School to Work planning ideas. This will provide me with valuable information about who is transitioning to employment, university or further vocational studies to provide targeted support to all students.
UOW Presentation and Early Admission Workshop
In Week 6, UOW Student Engagement will be coming to Bulli to present to Year 11 & 12 students about the university pathways available to them and the importance of Year 11 results to support Early Admission processes.
Following on from this presentation, Year 12 students will be asked to register their interest in attending the UOW Early Admissions workshop which will be held in the school Library on Wednesday 18th June, at 1pm. In this workshop they can start their Early Admissions application and access advice and support with the questions and statements required.
Careers Interview
Very soon, students will be asked to book in with me for a Careers Interview to complete their Career Action Plan across Term 3. I will already have their ideas from the Student Pathways Survey, so we can spend time working out their Plan A, B and C and the steps they need to get them where they want to be. I look forward to meeting them all!

Congratulations
Plain English Speaking Competition
After a fiercely contested final against Smith Hill, Edmund Rice, Holy Spirit, Dapto, Corrimal, and St Mary’s, we are thrilled to announce that Theo has emerged victorious, taking out the regional title in the Plain English Speaking Award!
Congratulations, Theo. Your clarity, confidence, and conviction truly set you apart!
A big shout out as well to Blake, the previous winner, who returned with his speech titled “Going Out With a Laugh.” True to its name, it had the audience in stitches. Blake, thank you for your humour, wit, and passion over the years. You’ve left a lasting impression on our school community.
Earth & Environmental Science
This week, our Year 11 Earth & Environmental Science students got hands-on with tectonic processes by creating plate boundary models out of playdough! Using their colourful creations, students demonstrated the three main types of plate boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform.
This fun and interactive activity helped bring geological theory to life, allowing students to visualise how tectonic plates move, collide, and reshape our planet's surface. From mid-ocean ridges to subduction zones and fault lines, the models sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation.
Images attached are of oceanic-continental convergence, also known as a subduction zone.
Marine Studies
Last week one of our Year 9 students Jermaine, met one of our local fishy friends,
an impressive 40cm Dusky Flathead, during a fishing practical lessons for Marine Studies.
Our fishy finned friend was released back into the ocean
to test our student anglers skills another day!
Well done Jermaine!
Parent Teacher Interviews
An email has been sent to parents with detailed instructions.
The interview evening for Years 8, 9 and 10 will be scheduled in early term 3. More information will be provided closer to the date.

Friday the 23rd is a normal school day.
Zone Athletics Cross Country Carnival
This week our students participated in the annual Zone Cross Country carnival held at Kembla Joggers, which at times resembled a swimming race more than a running race! Nearly 100 students braved the rain to compete in their age groups, achieving impressive results, with several students progressing to the South Coast Regional carnival set for Friday, June 13th. Congratulations to all students for their great team spirit! A special thank you to Mr. Newman, Mr. Wilkinson, and Miss Mcintosh for directing students around the course, and to the parents for transporting students to and from the venue today!
Netball
On Monday, our Open and 15's Netball team competed in the Northern Illawarra Zone Knockout at Illawarra Sports Stadium.
Our 15-year-olds played 6 games throughout the day but did not qualify for the finals.
Our Opens team went through the day undefeated, which means they have advanced to the South Coast Knockout in Nowra later this term. Congratulations to all players, and bring on the next competition. Miss Gibbs and Mrs Powell
