Robbin Durbin Caretaker Retirement
Today as a school we said farewell to Mr Robbin Durbin at Assembly as he officially retires from his caretaking duties next Wednesday. Mr Durbin has been a caretaker at Stanley Avenue School since 2016.
Below is an extract from my farewell speech to Mr Durbin.
On behalf of Stanley Avenue School I’d like to thank Mr Durbin for his efforts since 2016 in his caretaker role. Mr Durbin started in a job share 3 days a week and then from 2017 moved to his full time role.
If you know Mr Durbin he is a musical man and whether it's playing the guitar or his country singing it’s there where you will find him in his happy place.
Mr Durbin has a friendly demeanor and likes a joke, I know he has a lot of pride in Stanley Avenue School, but it’s time for him now to put the lawn mower, the leaf blower and the other tools away, and spend some quality time with his wife Jenny, as they travel around the country.
Mr Durbin, once again thank you for your efforts and we wish you all the best with your new adventures.
‘Whaia kia u’- Strive to Succeed
New Caretaker Appointment
We are excited to announce that Mr Alan Meyler has won the new Caretaker position and will start his duties next Thursday. Alan is well known to the school and has filled in as Caretaker admirably over the last two years when Mr Durbin was recovering from his hand operations. Additionally, he has assisted with a number of sporting teams. We wish Alan all the best and know that he will do a great job.

Stanley Ave at the Community Gardens
On Wednesday, Flynn (Room 13), Sophie (Room 5) and Ivy (Room 4) visited the Community Gardens with Mrs Hamilton. They took a tour with one of the volunteers, Greta Dromgool. She answered our questions and explained how the gardens serve the community. The students reported back to their classes about the Community Gardens and how they can benefit from what the gardens provide. Visiting the gardens was a way to connect Team Tui's Inquiry Unit this term - "Growing Us". We have explored healthy eating options as well as learning about growing strawberry plants.
If you want to enjoy free fruit and vegetables from the Community Gardens, visit between 1-4pm on a Sunday and see what the 'Sharing Table' has available.
