SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER
September 4, 2024
Canyon Families
We have made it through our first full week! Today is day 10 already! Other than a few minor bumps, we have had a GREAT start to the school year! Our counselors have worked hard to make schedule changes and our teachers have been great at adapting as students have been dropped and added to classes. Thankfully, we are almost finished with schedule changes! Because we sent an August Welcome Back Newsletter, this one will be short. Although there are not a lot of events to recap so far, there are some upcoming events to bring to your attention.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Wednesday, September 18th at 6 PM
We want to invite everyone to Back to School Night, Wednesday, September 18th at 6:00 PM. This is a night when parents have the opportunity to meet their students teachers and learn about all of the great things their students will be doing during the 2024-25 school year. Parents will follow their students schedule with 0 Period beginning at 6:00 PM. If your student does not have a 0 period, then your night will begin at 6:15 PM with Period 1. Classes are 10 minutes long with a 5 minute passing period in between classes. Parents should print out their students schedule ahead of time and we will have maps available that evening.
SENIOR PARENT NIGHT
Wednesday, September 18th at 5 PM
Our Counselors will be holding a Senior Parent Night at 5:00 PM in the CHS Library prior to Back To School Night. Counselors will be presenting information on the College Application Process and post secondary options. This night is for Senior Parents Only. Senior students will be receiving the same information in their English classes the week of September 16th.
PTSA MEETING
The first PTSA meeting of the year is tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th at 9:00 AM in the CHS Library. All are welcome! Not a member yet? It only costs $15 to join! Please click the link below for more information.
WELCOME BACK DANCE
Friday, September 13th
Tickets for the Welcome Back Dance (also known as WARP) are currently on sale in the Student Center. They are $20 with ASB Card and $30 without. Prices go up on Monday, September 9th. WARP is on Friday, September 13th from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the Canyon HS Quad and is open to all grades.
CLUB CARNIVAL
Our Annual Club Carnival is scheduled for the end of the month. It is a two day, lunch time event on Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th. This is a great way for students to get connected to CHS. Please encourage your student to attend and visit the many booths that will be set up. There is a club for everyone and if your student doesn't see a club they want to join, they can start their own. They would need to talk to Mr. Steve Smith, Activities Director.
COUNSELING NEWSLETTER
Our Counseling office puts out its own newsletter every month with important information. In case you missed it, here is the link to their most recent letter. It has important information for Seniors regarding College Applications.
9th GRADE PARENT NIGHT
Thursday, October 3rd at 6 PM
The Counselors would like to invite all 9th Grade Parents to an information meeting on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:00 PM in the CHS Library. This is a great opportunity for 9th grade parents to learn about what their student can expect academically during their four years at Canyon. This is a parent meeting only. The same information will be provided to students in their English Class during the week of September 30th.
