Social Studies Adoption 2025-26
Fresno Unified will be adopting a new social studies curriculum for the 2025-26 school year. They will be choosing from two vendors based on reviews from our teachers and parents. Attached is the flyer for TCI California and their curriculum. You are welcome to review the material at teachtci.com/fresno. Also attached is a QR code where you send in your review of the curriculum. I will send out other vendor's curriculum as they send them to us.

Gibson Academic and Attendance Data
Attendance Rate (8/19 - 11/15)
Our current attendance rate since the beginning of the school year continues to be at 95.0%. Gibson is currently has the second highest attendance rate among Elementary Schools. Thank you for your support in making sure students on at school on time, every day. Our goal is to reach over 96% for the school year.
I will continue to display academic data throughout the school year as students are assessed on benchmarks in ELA & math.
iReady Results - Beginning of Year 2024-25 (Grades K-6th)
ELA - 32%
Math - 17%
This assessment was given during the first few weeks of school, and is a benchmark to show where students are meeting their grade level standards to begin the year, in comparison to where they will be at the end of the year. You will see growth throughout the school year and there will be future diagnostic assessments in December and April/May.
Fluency Assessments
One of our schoolwide goals this year is to increase the fluency level of every student. Teachers are instructing and assessing fluency for 10 minutes each day. Students were assessed at the beginning of the school year, and will be assessed at each progress reporting periods. Students are given a one-minute assessment to determine how much growth in their fluency level. Our schoolwide data shows that 56% of our students in grades 1st - 6th are at grade level or above after being assessed on reading fluency. 52% of students increased the number of words they read per minute from the beginning of the year. The next benchmark assessment will take place in December at the end of the second quarter.
Character Counts! Month for Citizenship
Wednesday will celebrate November's Character Counts! trait of citizenship. Students are encouraged to wear purple on that day.
Citizenship is about being a member of a community, helping others and following rules. Good citizens show respect, help their community, and participate in activities that make the place they live better.
