NMSHS PANTHER POST
September 27, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - Mr. Goodrich
Nederland Middle-Senior HS Community,
We have been having a fun Homecoming week. Yesterday afternoon was the HOCO Powder Puff game between the Senior/Freshman and the Junior/Sophomores. The game ended in a 28-28 tie, so we had a field goal tie-braeaker. Eva Wrobel made the game winning field goal for the Junior/Sophomore team. It was a great game and everyone had a fun time. Just a few more events left to end the week.
Here is a rundown on the remaining Homecoming Week activities:
HoCo Volleyball game: JV at 4:30, Varsity at 5:30
HoCo Parade starts at Teens Inc. at 11:00 (HS student class floats make their way through town and finish up back at the school)
HoCo BBQ sponsored by Ned Panther Parents (PTA): 12:00 at the Soccer Field
HoCo Varsity Soccer game: 1:30
HoCo High School Dance at the Ned Community Center: 7:00 to 9:00 (HS only)
October Count
Each year at this time the State of Colorado and school districts participate in October Count, which takes place the last week of September through October 8. The state counts students enrolled in every school to determine state funding for school districts. The school districts in turn provide specific funding for schools based on the enrolled number of students who attend. That is why it is very important that all of our students attend as much as possible during the October count window. Thanks for your help.
It’s going to be a fun weekend, let's all be safe out there!

Panther Pride!! This year Nederland celebrates Keahi Pelkum Donahue as a top 1% scorer in 2023’s PSAT National Merit Scholarship Program Qualifying Exam! As such Keahi is named a 2024 semifinalist, and is eligible to compete for finalist. Payton Kutscher, Natalia Garcia Upczak, Aya Pelkum Donahue, Cedar Shupe, Lauren Schrader were named as 2024 awardees of Honorable National Recognition for scoring in the top 10% of students taking the exam! As such, all of these students are eligible for listing these honors on college and scholarship applications. When’s the next chance to earn such glory and notoriety?? Current Juniors and Sophomores take the PSAT National Merit Qualifying exam here on October 23. Juniors can qualify for National Merit Scholarship status, and both grades can qualify for National Recognition!
Coming on October 23: October PSAT National Merit Scholarship Program Qualifying Exam is given here on Wednesday, 10/23 @ 9:30am. The National Merit Scholarship Program is recognized worldwide as a prestigious award. For all 10th and 11th graders, top scores allow examinees to qualify for several corporate scholarship awards. All students can also opt in to the College Board Student Search Service to connect with colleges through the Big Future app. See more information in the PSAT National Merit Student Guide here. The exam is $18. Parents pay on Revtrak, on the Testing Tile. Deadline for payment is October 23.
AP EXAMS. Exam registration payments due by October 31.
Register for your high school exams now, using the exam sign up sheet 2024/25 AP Exam Payment form OR pay online: https://bvsd.revtrak.net/high-schools/neh/ select the “testing” app tile. Why take an AP Exam? Entering college with credit you’ve already earned through AP can save you time and money—for example, you might be able to skip introductory courses or even graduate early. Check the AP Exam Credit Search.
College Board reports that no matter their score, students who complete an AP® course and exam benefit from their AP experience. In fact, even students who score a 1 or 2 on an AP Exam are more likely to attend college and graduate on time (than academically similar students who don’t take AP). In a recent survey of nearly 2,000 first-year college students, over 90% of respondents who earned an AP Exam score of 2 said they’re doing well (or very well) in college courses that cover similar content.
