Principal's Message
Happy Thursday and Happy March to All!
Just a reminder that we are taking nominations for the Paul J. Langan Award, named for our KSB Superintendent from 1945-1956. Because of his accomplishments and contributions, the Paul J. Langan Award was established in 1992. The award is presented to individuals who have given their time and efforts for a long period of time to support KSB, individuals that are blind or visually impaired, and the blind community. The award will be presented at Founders Day on May 4th of this year.
We would love for you to nominate someone for the Langan Award. The nomination form is available here. Additionally, if you are a parent or guardian and would like to be a part of the award committee, please email me at peggy.sinclair-morris@ksb.kyschools.us.
Just a reminder-no school tomorrow. Enjoy your long weekend!

Math 📐📏
High School
Algebra 2 students and other Juniors will be taking the ACT March 8 - 13. The math portion is Thursday March 9. Please help your student do their best by getting a good night's sleep, drinking plenty of water, and eating a healthy breakfast.
Algebra 1 students have been working on modeling multiplication with binomials with algebra tiles and area models.
Geometry students are using their algebra skills to write and solve equations from diagrams with angle pairs.
Middle School
It's Geometry Time in our middle school math classes this week. 6th graders are learning about and discussing the coordinate plane, as well as practicing graphing. Our 7th graders are digging deep with all things circles-including area, radius, and circumference. Our 8th graders are testing their hands with functions. Each class is using technology to help reinforce and practice these concepts.
Elementary
The K/1 Math class is using various strategies and manipulative’s to fluently add within 5. The students continue to work on numbers in base ten and practicing their counting and cardinality skills.
Two classes in elementary math started new units this week; Second grade: three-digit numbers in unit, standard, expanded, and word forms and Fifth grade: Adding decimals using place value strategies, and relate those strategies to a written method. In the next few weeks, fifth grade will continue with subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals using place value strategies. In the next few weeks, second grade we will be modeling base 10 within 1000 both with money and without, and comparing 3-digit numbers.
Health & PE 🥅
This week in elementary PE we are finishing our unit on Bell Kickball and how it relates to Beep Baseball. Students are learning the rules of Bell Kickball and how to advocate for themselves for modifications they may need. These include a clapper and either a different sounding ball or a different sized ball.
In Middle and High School PE we are returning to our goalball unit to continue to work on some transferable skills. Students are showing off their underhand roll they are also working on with our bowling team! Goalball is a favorite of our students and we always make sure to give them opportunities to play what they enjoy!

Career Education
This week starting in March, students should contemplate and identify a job or career that they may like to have or pursue in the future. After identifying the job, research online about the tasks, educational needs, etc.
Mental Health Matters 💚
TIPS TO BUILD EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE IN KIDS
- Spend quality time with kids. When they feel loved and supported, children develop emotional strength.
- Talk about feelings so your child learns to share their worries and fears with people they trust.
- Instead of rushing to solve problems, give kids time to work things out themselves.
- When children experience failure or disappointment, it’s important to praise their effort and encourage them to try again.
- Acknowledge your own mistakes to teach kids that mistakes are essential for learning and growth.
- If your child can’t find a solution to a problem, use gentle questioning to guide them towards it.
- Ensure kids are eating well and getting enough sleep and exercise.
