MCCHS Friday Focus
297th Issue - August 16, 2024
From the Desk of Mike Shukis
Welcome back to another great year at Marian Central Catholic High School. We are all looking forward to an amazing school year and we hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer break. Our theme this year is on Prayer and our desire to teach our faculty/staff and students to be able pray for those in need, to celebrate our success and victories and all other prayer needs โon the spotโ and from the heart. Father Warren led our faculty through this active prayer during our teacher institute and while a little out of some of our comfort levels it was an amazing blessing to witness our attempts at this kind of prayer. This will take practice and soon I am sure we will go from diamonds in the rough to sparkling and shining in our prayer attempts.
In other good news โ
- I believe we are the only high school in the Diocese of Rockford who has increased their enrollment and this is the first increase for Marian Central in the last 10 years. A big thank you needs to go out to our Advancement (Development) Office, Mrs. Bordeaux, Coach Kirwan, and Ms. Garrelts, What an amazing team and what an amazing job they have done. Also, a big thank you to all our partner schools in the deanery and most of all we want to thank all of you for spreading the good news about Marian.
- This past spring, Marian was evaluated by the largest accrediting agency for high schools in the nation and they evaluated every possible aspect that one could find in a high school. In the summer I received our results. The average high school score in the United States was 304. Our score was 354. While this is a great score and we did receive full recognition from the agency, we know that there is still work to do and improvements to make here at Marian.
- This year, we have had a few changes in personnel, and we have had to add a few teachers due to increased enrollment. I am very happy to welcome our new faculty to Marian Central Catholic High School. Ms. Olivia Arza (English), Dr. Tim Florer (Business), Ms. Monika Hess (Academic Resource/Business), Ms. Emily Gahgan (Mathematics), Ms. Idalia Martinez (World Languages), and Mr. Andrew Fearn (Guidance). Once again, we at Marian Central are very happy to welcome these new members to our faculty. All six are well qualified in their particular teaching disciplines, and I am sure they will further enhance our exceptionally outstanding faculty.
- An update on our main entrance renovations. All the brick pavers and planters were on schedule to be completed by the middle of next week, however, with a possible rain day today (Thursday), obviously this would push things back a bit. I have been told, that cutting brick is next on the agenda, which will put a lot of dust in the air near the main entrance of our parking lot. It may be a good idea to park away from the main entrance next week and make sure all car windows are rolled up. As I said the main entrance landscaping should be completed by the end of next week, however, the Mary monument will take up to six months to complete. There will be more information to share as things keep moving forward.
