"Where it's always a great day to be a Bison!"
A Note from Ms. Marlatt
Dear Bison Families,
We hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!
With this edition of the BisoNews, we are back on our schedule of news every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. It is hard to believe we only have a few more opportunities to share the BisoNews before we are done with this school year!
It is never too late to make a pledge to have great attendance. The last weeks of school offer many chances for connection, relationships, celebrations and lots of learning that will take us to the next year. If your child's attendance has been sporadic, please commit to ON TIME and EVERYDAY now! It will pay off.
Please read on as we share many news of upcoming events and opportunities. I am also sharing our latest "This Week at Second Creek" video.
Congratulations to all students on the 23-24 Bison Strong Greatitude parade. What a wonderful selection of Bison, who display gratitude everyday. They are a model to all of us.
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Ana Marlatt
Personnel News
We will have a few changes to our line up for staff for the 24-25 school year. We don't know all of the changes yet, but would like to share what we know now.
- Ms. Jolene Manes, who is currently a 4th grade teacher, will teach 5th grade next year. We have large numbers coming up in that grade level, so an extra 5th grade teacher will help. All current teachers will remain.
- Ms. Tracey Grovum, who is currently in 3rd grade, will teach 4th grade next year.
- We will be hiring a new 3rd grade teacher. The job was posted and closes today. Interviews will take place soon.
- We are in the process of hiring a 2nd Instructional Coach to support our staff.
5th Grade and Kindergarten Parents:
Mark your calendars! Both are happening on April 5th. More information will be coming soon!
CMAS Spirit Week
As we lead into 2 weeks of testing for our 3rd-5th grade students, please join in the fun! Student Coucil has created this fun opportunity for our school.
CMAS starts on April 9th
Second Creek Bison Families,
Beginning on Tuesday, April 9 continuing through Friday, April 19th, all third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the Colorado Measure of Academic Standards (CMAS) in English Language Arts and Math. Fifth graders will also take the science test.
We Need Your Help With The Following:
Chromebooks must be fully charged and brought to school with their chargers during this time.
Students must be on time for school, as required every day, but it is critical during testing days. If a student is late they might miss the test and have to take it on a different day.
Make sure that your child receives a good night's rest and is ready for their school day!
If you have any questions or concerns please contact our School Assessment Coordinator at cgardner@sd27j.net.
Here is our daily CMAS schedule, starting on April 9th:
- 5th Grade ELA testing - 4/09 through 4/11 - 8:15am to 9: 45 am (any 5th grade student who arrives after 8 am will have to wait and make up the test later. PLEASE BE ON TIME!)
- 4th and 3rd grade ELA testing - 4/09 through 4/11 - 10am - 11:30am
- 5th Grade MATH testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 8:15am to 9: 45 am (any 5th grade student who arrives after 8 am will have to wait and make up the test later. PLEASE BE ON TIME!)
- 4th and 3rd grade MATH testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 10am - 11:30am
- 5th Grade SCIENCE testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 1:30pm - 2:50pm.
It is important that students test during this time. Please make appointments, etc. outside this window. We appreciate your help with our testing.
Our lower grade levels (Kindergarten - 2nd grade) have prepared inspirational notes and messages for our testing grades. These will be shared everyday with 3rd-5th grade tests. We are excited to see this happen and we know the encouragement will go a long way.

Traffic Reminders
If you are a returning family to Second Creek, you know our parking lot is small and needs special care during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Thank you for contributing to the overall safety of our staff and students!
If you are a new family to Second Creek, please read the information below carefully. Staff and sometimes Commerce City police are out during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal to make sure everyone is safe.
Parents, it is very important that we do not park on the bus lane before or after school. Blocking the bus causes delays that go beyond our school.
Here are a few reminders about our drop off and pick up procedures. You know that Commerce City police pops in once in a while and issue tickets to vehicles that are not following our safety rules... so please make sure you are doing what you can do keep our students and staff safe!
- No parked cars in the "no parking zone" - which is by the sidewalk from the beginning of the parking lot all the way to the front doors. This is a fire lane and also a bus lane. There is NO PARKING anytime. Only drop off or pick up. We have noticed many cars parked waiting for the school to open in the morning, blocking the bus and causing lines of cars that go all the way outside the parking lot. Please drop off your student and go - no parking.
- Same rules apply for pick up after school.
- Students can be dropped off at 7:30am. We do not have supervision for students who are dropped off before these times.
- If you drop your student off late, you have to come in and sign your student in at the front office.
- Students must be picked up at 3:30pm every day. We do not have staff to supervise students after school.
- Let us know if you need information about our before and after-school program.
- Please only use the handicap parking if you have a handicap license.
- The Staff of the Month parking is for staff only at all times.
We appreciate your cooperation!
A shout out to our sponsors!
