SGB Week Ahead
October 10, 2023
VALUE of the MONTH: Respect
Principal's Message
Dear SGB Families,
In September, we had our first fire drill and this week we will have our first SGB Lockdown Drill. Teachers will be reviewing the protocol with their classes and preparing them for what it will be like during the drill. The majority of our students are familiar with the procedures from previous years. Our goal is to be matter of fact, similar to how we conduct a fire drill. We do not use upsetting language or scenarios as we practice these types of drills. They are done as a safety measure and while our hope is to never have to implement one, it is better to be prepared for all situations and keep everyone as safe as possible. Detective Spatta with the Haverstraw Police Department works with me to evaluate and make suggestions during these types of drills.

On a lighter note, this weekend, I got to have a girls' night with my sister and sisters-in-law. We went to see an amazing comedian, Nate Bargatze, at Radio City Music Hall. He's amazing (and clean!) and the night was wonderful. We laughed the entire time. While reflecting on the evening, what stood out the most happened during his opening acts. They consisted of two of his friends and his Dad. Each one was funny in their own right, but his Dad was adorable...and tugged at all our heartstrings, because when he finished his bit, he introduced his son. He choked up at the idea of introducing his son to a sold out show at Radio City Music Hall. It was a dream come true and honestly, I've actually never heard someone pause in the moment and acknowledge an accomplishment like that with such pride and love.
His gratitude was palpable as he described how grateful his entire family is for the audience's support and how much it has changed his son's/family's life. You could see eyes welling up in the audience watching a Dad exude pure pride in his son.
I share this because finding gratitude in every day life can be hard. In fact, many times we end up focusing on the negatives. However, if a person pauses daily and finds 3 things to be grateful for...a very positive habit develops. If you're looking for making conversation with your child at the end of the school day, ask them what 3 things are they grateful for that day (and it doesn't have to be a sold out show!). Encourage them to find the little things!
Enjoy a little bit of Nate - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGUhBzSgOxw
Have a wonderful week!
God bless,
Ms. Clarke
