Haunted Pathways: Trick-or-Treat for Transition
Mark your calendars for a delightfully spooky evening that’s sure to be fun for the whole family! On October 23 from 5-7 p.m., the Department of Special Education will be bringing the magic of Halloween to Martinsburg High School’s cafeteria with our Sensory Friendly Transition Expo and Festival. This isn’t just any Halloween event—it’s a chance for parents, guardians and students to dress up in their favorite school-appropriate costumes and embark on a night of trick-or-treating with a purpose. As you wander through the festive atmosphere, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with community organizations that offer valuable resources and support for our students and families. And for those who prefer a more low-key option, we’ve got you covered with a convenient "drive-up" option, where you can collect to-go bags filled with goodies donated by participating agencies.
Whether you’re here for the candy, the connections, or both, it’s going to be a night filled with laughter, learning, and a little bit of Halloween magic. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable evening!
Special Education Announces Opportunities for Students and Families
Parenting Kids with ASD
We are thrilled to announce an enriching opportunity for parents navigating the world of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). PERC has teamed up with the West Virginia Autism Training Center to bring a special four-part series tailored specifically for parents of children diagnosed with ASD to BCS. This series is designed to empower families with a deeper understanding of autism, combining educational insights with engaging activities and the chance to connect with a supportive community. Whether families are looking to expand knowledge, find new strategies for a child or simply connect with others on a similar journey, this series offers something valuable for everyone. We invite families to join us at 401 S. Queen St. from 5-6 p.m. on September 12, September 26, October 10 and October 22.

Noninstructional Activity Form
Parents must complete a request for this non-instructional activity five school days prior to the first day of school absence.
Families may request one non-instructional activity per year with no more than five total days of absences. Any additional days will be considered unexcused absences.
To be eligible, students must not be chronically absent. Their attendance rate must be over 90%.
Students must turn in all make-up work within the allotted time. They have one day for each day that they were absent.
The absence code is ANONINST. This is an excused absence code. If all work is not completed and received on time, these absences will be unexcused.
Gravel Parking Lot Extension Note
Please be aware that there is a one-way entrance and exit to the gravel parking lot extension. We ask that you park facing the paved parking lot and that you fill up spaces closest to the school first. Please obey the "DO NOT ENTER" sign.
Excused Absence Notes
Did you know that, if your child misses school, you can complete a parent or doctor's note online at this link? You can also send a traditional not to school or message your teacher on Seesaw.
