COMMUNITY UPDATE
Hello North Rockland Families,
As we move into the final two weeks of the school year, celebrations are in full swing across the District - and with good reason. From moving-up ceremonies to musical concerts, these days are filled with well-earned recognition, meaningful moments and North Rockland pride.
This past weekend, the 20th Annual North Rockland Community 5K brought us together at beautiful Bowline Point Park for a day of giving back. Each step raised funds for three local NR families and served as a powerful reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together in support of one another.
That same spirit of pride and celebration continued throughout the week at our elementary schools. Grade 6 students at Farley, Haverstraw and Willow Grove were recognized for their good work during three very special moving-up ceremonies. Next stop: Fieldstone Middle School! At Stony Point and Thiells, Grade 3 students marked their own milestone transitions in heartfelt events spotlighting their academic achievements.
Next week, West Haverstraw Elementary will host its Grade 3 Moving-Up Ceremony, rounding out this year’s elementary milestones. Each of these culminating events celebrate both how far our students have come and the adventure that lies ahead. We’re incredibly proud of every student and grateful to the families who support them.
Our youngest learners at the Neary Educational Center also took a big step forward this week. On Monday, Pre-K students “crossed the bridge” into Kindergarten in a stirring ceremony filled with excitement for what’s ahead.
At North Rockland High School, the Music Department Awards Night was held Monday evening, bringing together students, families and staff for a melody-filled tribute to our talented musicians. One of the most touching traditions of the night was the senior rose dedication, during which graduating seniors presented a rose to someone who has inspired their musical journey - from teachers and underclassmen to close friends and loved ones. Congratulations to our talented instrumentalists and vocalists, especially this year’s “Most Outstanding Musicians” - singer Sarina Neset and trumpet player Britney Estrella.
As we near the finish line, we encourage all students to keep up the great work. Whether you’re studying for exams, preparing to enter a new school or getting ready to graduate, your dedication has brought you this far. Let’s finish strong together!
Please also note that all North Rockland schools and offices will be closed Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. This important holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States and is a time for our community to reflect on the values of freedom, equity and justice. In our schools, we use this day to honor Black history, resilience and cultural contributions.
